Almost exactly one year ago, on the 15th August 2016 I posted the following story in answer to one of the challenges. I had forgotten about it until I checked out the archives. It shocked me a little at first...The Promise.

I remember reading this. You had me going. Glad it was only a nightmare. I've had a 'wake up screaming' nightmare a time or two myself. they never leave you.

I think I had read this before, too. It's very vivid and immediate. I once dreamed that a friend of mine had died, falling off a roof I think, and woke up appalled and wondering if I had Received A Sign - thankfully not, as it happens. But when I summoned up the courage to tell her (funny thing to be told!), she was quite unfazed by it. So your description of Illya's reaction, unlikely as it might sound to anyone who hasn't experienced it, is very plausible and convincing.

I used to suffer nightmares quite frequently as a child, but they started to end once we moved to a new house, thankfully. I admit that the nightmare scenario is quite a mean trick to play on readers, because you can do almost anything before revealing the dream. It isn't a plot device I could really use again in similar circumstances.
