I had a conversation with one of our cousins the other day about Linda Cornett's MFU stories. They are among my favorite fics. If you haven't come across one yet, allow me to present "Invitation to Dance." I don't want to tell you why I love it, as I would be giving too much away. Hope you enjoy this as much as I have.

Thanks for posting the link. I'd forgotten this one - I read it ages ago and thought it was terrific, and very witty. All her stuff is.

Here's what I have to say about Linda Cornett. She asked me once to beta one of her stories. When you edit other people's work, there's a range of tasks. There's the level at which you are providing very fundamental corrections and commentary to a beginning writer. Then there's the level at which you are dealing with a skilled professional, and your input is subtle and precise, literally at the level of, "I think this word is not appropriate for this character as you have written him/her; I think this word [slightly different] is more in character and fits in with the flow and tenor of the story."

Linda's work is so good that, as an editor, you are applying the finest of polishing cloths to this or that facet of her gemstone in order to further clarify what is already nearly perfect. It is a real challenge, and a real pleasure, for an editor to work with stories that good, and that's what I experienced with Linda.

Did she stop writing?

I guess we all run out of steam at some point. It's nice we've still got what she wrote, though.

Sure you can rec it - if she's OK with letting it be scanned/uploaded. I know some authors aren't OK with that, but some are. The older stuff that was only in zines should be placed online somewhere as long as the author is OK with that. It's possible, sometimes, but people don't really know. You don't know 'til you ask. :-)

That's my view, at least.
