One thing I love about WC is that I catch stories that escaped me the first time around. This plays out very nicely, and Kuryakin's forgiving gesture is what I hoped for.

Illya is an insightful man. He understands the detective's feelings, even if he doesn't like them, and knew it would be better for all concerned to let the whole thing go.
