Bad Luck

When it was all over, Napoleon stared at the mirror that had taken the bullets in his stead. Seeing his partner fixated on the cracked surface, Illya walked up behind him, peering over his shoulder to study the mirror briefly himself before commenting.

"Nice grouping."

That broke Napoleon's stare and he swiveled his neck to look closely at his partner.

"Nice grouping? Is that all you have to say about it? Nice grouping?"

"No."

Keeping his expression perfectly neutral, Illya moved forward and nudged one piece of fallen silvered glass with the toe of his shoe.

"This means THRUSH will have seven years of bad luck."

That completed the task of breaking Napoleon from his morbid thoughts and he laughed, shaking his head.

"You really believe THRUSH will have seven years of bad luck because they shot a mirror, Illya?"

"No. I believe THRUSH will have bad luck because I intend to make sure of it."

"Sounds like a worthwhile goal. Mind if I lend a hand on that project?"

The familiar sly smile formed on Illya's face.

"I was counting on it."
