No Reason
“What was that all about?”
The blond turned slowly towards his questioning partner, the one who had watched the lovely Tracy Alexander plant a kiss on the Russian’s ready lips.
“I beg your pardon…”
Napoleon made a piffle sound.
“Oh no you don’t, you never beg anyone’s pardon. You know what I mean… that kiss. What was that?”
Blond eyebrows arched in faux innocence that rivaled any juvenile delinquent’s plea of ‘not guilty’.
“You just described it. It was a kiss.”
There was little time between the quick exchange and the approach of the head of UNCLE, Alexander Waverly. With little opportunity to pout or gloat, the two agents were soon yielding their champagne glasses to their boss as duty recalled them.
Mr. Waverly pointed out the liaison that was taking place beyond them, between Tracy and the handsome president of a country no longer at risk of a coup by her former husband. Illya remarked on it while Napoleon made a quick mental note.
Tracy made every effort to transfer her energies and emotions to a new target, to someone who might offer the security and position she openly sought. A girl had to look out for her future, she reasoned.
Secretly, without reason, she remembered the kiss.
