Thank you for such an incisive review. I have to admit that I have written it because I love the song and I also find myself sharing some of the story's mood at the moment. I don't know if you have read the two stories that sandwich this one, I.e. 'looking up' and 'reconciliation'. You are right in saying that normally Napoleon would never behave in this way, but if you follow the line of the stories you will see that he is going through a difficult time, largely through the evil dealings of Grant Chesters. I believe also that there is an emptiness in both their lives which they don't recognise at first and which will be resolved by their partnership and, dare I say it, by the love of a good woman. I need to write the next story in this cycle which will fill in the gap between 'reconciliation' and 'choice' the last in that series at least for now. Hope this all makes sense!
