I'm stepping in for Glennagirl today.

The Man from U.N.C.L.E. television series had enumerable stars and starlets guesting on the show as innocents as well as the villains. There were very few baddies who repeated their role, G. Emory Partridge for one, and perhaps Gervais Ravel.  My mind is going blank, but were there any other repeat villains? Some stars returned to play the innocents after having been the bad guy, and of course Jill Ireland but lets not go there with her...

Would it have made for more drama if Napoleon and Illya had a regular arch nemesis?(other than the organization of THRUSH)

Who was your favorite villain or villainess and why?

I don't say 24/7, but I did like Vctor Martin. I wouldn't have liked the villain to be Marton each time, but, yes, every so often. In Get Smart, I loved having Sigfried. (More von Stalhein than Marton, but still...)

Didn't Victor Marton appear in more than one episode? He seems too familiar for a one off!

I do like (hate?) Miss Dyketon but I think Mother Fear was the best villainess in MFU. She was in charge of children and in my mind, that made her the most evil woman on the show. She spoke in a sing-song, sickly sweet voice which was deceiving. She was killed off much too quickly. I'd have liked to see her return many times though I'm sure Illya wouldn't have liked that.

Yes, indeed, and addressed it very well. Thank you!

If Marton had become a regular, it might have been rather interesting to have one or two of his henches, also

One thing S5 might have done, was to have two villains - Thrush or otherwise - fighting each other as much as UNCLE. Is there a particular match off you'd find interesting?

Dr. Egret appeared in two episodes--using different actresses. She got away as well and I'm surprised that she was only used twice on the show (although she has appeared in many fanfic stories. A scary, thoroughly evil woman!
Another baddie, although just one appearance, was Dr. Stoller (4th season) who, after testing his 'superman' unsuccessfully, managed to quietly escape.

I do find Mother Fear being killed satisfactory for that episode. If there had been a S5, I should think they would have brought Dabree back. It does loook as if they meant to.

I bet that's it!

I rather liked Jordin, from the Bridge of Lions Affair, mostly because he seemed quietly competent and efficient, rather than dramatic. Though he died, so that makes it tricky for him to recur, I suppose.

I would have thought Angelique would be an obvious one for arch nemesis, though really, so far I think I've pretty much agreed with every villain mentioned. More of them all, please.

An interesting question! I'm not sure what my preference is. I liked having THRUSH as a whole as the arch-nemesis. It could have been interesting to have someone be the Really Big Bad who popped up now and then, but every time I try to think of it I keep coming up with Dr. Loveless from The Wild Wild West and then I am promptly amused and can't concentrate on thinking of an appropriate one for U.N.C.L.E.

I do love it when characters, both good and bad, recur on U.N.C.L.E. It shows continuity, something lacking in most classic TV shows.

As for ones who didn't recur that one might like to see do so, that is a tough question. Sometimes, as a fanfic writer, I prefer for characters to only appear once. I've been disappointed sometimes when a beloved oneshot character has recurred in canon and they don't seem the same as they did the first time. (That happened on The Rockford Files more than once, sigh.) However, U.N.C.L.E. seemed to have a pretty good track record with keeping personalities the same when characters recurred, so maybe they would have done justice to any oneshot character.

Hmm, that could be, but I think scripts play a part too. One of the Rockford characters I mentioned was played by a very talented actor, but the scripts he was given to work with for the character's second and third appearances were very lackluster and only showed the character's bad side, instead of the more well-rounded character we saw the first time.

Yes, Egret could have been played by almost anyone, given her penchant for disguise.

Oh, I thought of one I wanted to see return! Victor Buono's character!

I don't know I liked the one big enemy and the lots of little varying ones. One of my favorites was ...Culp... the ark one in first season (totally awful with names right now!) where he is trying to round up people for the post apocalypse on his ship, to reseed humankind ... he's wonderful because he's nuts but he comes at the whole thing with such dignity and love. And he thinks he saving the world.

But that was just a digression... favorite Thrush villain is Dr. Egret. In The Mad Teaparty affair, I am still convinced that she was, in fact, the innocent. And they let her in to UNCLE HQ and they let her get away, and they never had any idea.... I've mentioned this before, and no one else seems to have reached the same conclusion, as me... it's probably the fanfic I'm meant to write.

Yes! ...or was it .. I think it was The Shark Affair...?

The other Egret episode, is, I think one of the scariest. The ...brain killer affair or something like that... having Waverly in such peril was a remarkable devise, super scary, plus the freezing-people-gizmos! .... and I think it's the only ep where the innocent is PAID for her help --which is significant. I wouldn't have called it a favorite ep or favorite villain ... but that is a very good one, so maybe I'll change my thinking.

But the Mad Teaparty... It's utterly terrifying if you watch it, the way I always see it, that Egret IS the innocent...you never get a good look at Egret before she changes her face--- the only look you get at her---she looks just like the innocent. And (obviously? this was unintentional because) it's never addressed or resolved. But Egret gets away in that episode either way so... there's still that at least.

I'd certainly like to read that fanfic. /subtle hint.

Egret was in The Brain-Killer Affair? I thought her other episode was The Girls of Nazarone Affair.... Which was also pretty scary when you think about it....

That is an interesting thought about The Mad, Mad Tea Party Affair. That's one of my favorite season 1 episodes and I wouldn't mind in the least re-watching it. ;)

Speaking of recurring characters, I was thinking the female villain in the two season 1 Jill Ireland episodes was the same in both too.... She escaped in the first one and the second one was about catching her?

Yes, S5 could have had more Gervaise Ravel, as well.

Ah, that was Ravel.... I'm bad with names too.

How about Vincent Price? Wasn't he in a couple?

Oh dear.... you are probably right. There was an evil dr. someone in the Brain Killer Affair.... also a woman. I must have got them mixed up.

I kind of thought Elsa Lanchester was the evil doctor in Brain-Killer? Hmm.
