"Napoleon, how many people have you invited for Thanksgiving dinner?”
“Just you.”
“What is all this?”
“Well, Dinner’s at four, but we need appetizers to watch ‘March of the Wooden Soldiers’ and then football, so there are deviled eggs, celery, olives, nuts and beer, of course. Dinner will be turkey with stuffing, lasagna, turnips, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, salad, cranberry sauce, apple cider, broccoli rabe, apple pie for dessert and wine.”
“Obviously, I am spending the night here because I will be incapable of movement.”
“Then my mission will be accomplished. Have an egg.”
“Spacibo, my friend.”
“Happy Thanksgiving!”

Date: 2012-11-22 05:56 am (UTC)I still watch "March of the Wooden Soldiers" if I'm on the East Coast. And, you right, it doesn't seem to be a tradition out West. Kind of like WPIX's Yule Log. I loved that frickin' thing! I'm ticked that they cut it down to two hours.
New Yorker Napoleon would have been totally familiar with those two traditions though I don't see him watching the Yule Log.

Date: 2012-11-22 01:06 pm (UTC)Well If NS didn't have a fireplace, the Yule Log would have added a nice touch if he had company, and was sipping champagne with said company...though they probably wouldn't watch the Yule Log for very long, if you get my drift. :D
Happy Thanksgiving to you, your mom, the family and Pepper the hypno-cat!
