The friendship between Solo and Kuryakin is the rock solid foundation upon which we write and love these guys.  I know some people see it as more than friendship, but essentially the relationship we see fits into the framework of male bonding and super spy comraderie.

Sorry I mucked up the last answer. I was going to say that I think Illya wouldn't stay in UNCLE to begin with, perhaps he would work for an international organisation like UNHCR or Red Cross then... he might get persuaded to come back because some great crisis happened. Well I can never explain things briefly, can I?
