The Randomness of Life Chapter 19~ for A Little Drabble Do Ya

We're all getting caught up in the count down to Christmas, so as a change of pace here's a trio of half-drabbles that have nothing to do with the holiday.  Just two partners dealing with different issues while on assignments.

Prompted by: Daybreak ~Galway Kinnell

(three separate vignettes here, inspired by different lines in the poem and not a story, this time)

and enormous, imperfect stars

“The sky’s so clear at night when you’re in the desert.” Napoleon remarked, looking upwards as he and Illya sat beside their campfire.

“Nights are different in Russia this time of year...”

Napoleon looked at him quizzically

“A white night, one of the midnight sun.” Illya fondly remembered St. Petersburg...

increased their receptivity

Trapped inside a cave; they were unable to get a clear signal on their communicators.

Illya reached into his backpack, pulling out a sandwich, handing half to his partner.

“What? I think better when I have eaten.”

He wrapped a piece of foil around the antenna. Voila, there was a signal.

they were as invisible

Their car went careening over the embankment, rolling and tossing the agents like rag dolls.

When Napoleon woke, he found his conscious partner beside him.

“You okay?”

“Broken leg.”

“Me too.”

Their communicators were dead.

“Chyort,” the Russian cursed.

Headlights appeared above them. “I think tovarisch, our help just arrived.”

For some reason the foil made me think of people wearing little foil hats to keep away alien thoughts ::D I know, weird. Nice set of drabbles. Especially the foil.

We used to put foil on our rabbit ear TV antennas to help reception, so I figured what the heck. I know what your saying about the foil to keep out the alien thoughts, there was a scene in a Mel Gibson movie with that, but the title escapes me at the moment. The concept and the scene were weird, yes.

LOL! I know. It's like when someone ask you an actor's name, and immediately the bubble pops and you can't think of it to save your life. My dad's old trick was to start going through the alphabet until something clicked. Sometimes it works.

Thanks, yes that was my favorite as well. Funny how these lines from the poems can inspire mini stories, or just stand alones like these. My next drabble in the series involves Illya and his past and I liked how it came out so much that I'm writing a longer fic about it, just as I did with "A Leaf Moves." It's based on a Yeats poem, 'Under Ben Bulben.'
