It was after hours in the Commissary and Illya Kuryakin was scrounging around for something to eat. He discovered a real find in the refrigerator, and proceeded to grab some rye bread to make a rather large sandwich for himself...make that two.
Something was missing though...what to put on it as it would be a bit dry, though not completely. After searching, he found a perfect condiment.
Napoleon walked in a few minutes later, guessing where his hungry partner had gone.
Illya was seated at a table chowing down.
“Found something I see?” Solo pulled up a chair. “What is it?”
“Braunschweiger on rye bread.” Illya pushed the second sandwich towards him.
Napoleon cocked his head after picking it up and giving it a sniff. “Smells like liverwurst to me.”
“It is. Braunschweiger is generally pork liver, though smoked. However, basic liverwurst is not. They are pretty close to each other, Braunschweiger gets its name from a town in Germany called Braunschweig. While liver sausage is a more generic term used to describe many different types of liver based sausages. Braunschweiger is more like a country pâté en terrine.”
“Knowledgeable on liverwurst too, who would have thought tovarisch?” Solo chuckled.
“You have forgotten that I was stationed at Berlin headquarters for a short time with Harry Beldon.”
“Did you share your liverwurst knowledge with him as well? Napoleon quipped. “Pâté does sound much nicer that Braunschweiger,” he bit into the sandwich; his only other response was a hum, indicating that he liked it.
“Yes, oddly enough that is what Harry said as well.”
“Is that coleslaw I taste?” Napoleon kept talking.
“Yes, it needed something and that was all that was in the refrigerator. I would say it was a successful experiment. Now may I eat please?”
The American merely nodded as he was too busy enjoying his sandwich.

Date: 2016-11-16 11:16 pm (UTC)This was inspired by my lunch today. A rare treat, as I'm not supposed to eat organ meats. Braunschweiger has been my comfort food since way back when, when stormy weather is on the way. Though this time it was just an indulgence. Mmm (as Napoleon said)
Thanks for the comment.
