Many years ago I had a calico cat named 'Cookie', she was a quiet reserved little queen. Not a lap cat, though she would lay down on the sofa next to me. For some reason she refused to go into the bedroom. She, like many cats, like to perch atop things. One time (when I still had a house) I was in the den and had the strange goose-bumpy feeling that I was being watched.

I looked around, saw nothing in the windows, then I looked up and there was Cookie on top of very tall bookcase. Staring at me and looking very much like Snoopy when he imitates a vulture. Still could never figure out how she got up there...too high to jump.

Anyway, to Christmas. I had a tree up in a small cottage I was renting and again there was that feeling of being watched. Cookie wasn't on the bookcase again and then I saw her face peeking out at me from inside the real Christmas tree! Of course I laughed. She was the only cat I had that did that, and it was the only time.

I have fond memories of Cookie. She was a gentle little soul, if you can say that about a cat.

When there's a kitty involved, there's always a way. Old Jakie was the same, except it always involved Hannukah, and he was a black DLH, not a calico.
