Just a thought on the subject of journaling or, as it would have been described back in the 60's, a diary.  Would our guys from UNCLE ever record their daily thoughts?  Certainly they can't write down their activities unless they're certain no one will see it.  Letters to home?  I'm wondering about it, and came up with this.  Now, the question is, whose thoughts are these?

Every once in a while I like to take a risk and enjoy an unguarded moment or two.  Most of my life has been spent following the rules and being a poster boy for Most Likely To Confound The Enemy. 

All right, perhaps I didn’t always follow the rules.  But, in my defense, I get results even when my tactics seem a little… um… unorthodox.

I’d like to think I’ve taught my partner a thing or two about taking the road less traveled when it comes to winning our particular war on crime.  He’s from a more, shall we say, regimented code of conduct.  Although, come to think of it, he’s done some pretty flashy moves on occasion.  I guess I’m a good influence at the end of the day.

Back to that unguarded moment to which I referred earlier.

Today is a brilliant fall spectacle of color and cool temperatures that make a guy want to beg off of work and just enjoy the scenery.  There’s a convertible in the motor pool that would be perfect for a drive up north; a pretty girl would be nice riding next to me.  I think there might be one or two who would come along without too much begging on my part.

Sometimes I wonder what life would be like without all of the running and chasing; the bad guys and the violence that comes from enforcing the rules.  I regret that when I allow myself to think about it.

So… I won’t think about any of that today. 

Better to take that drive.

Awww, Napoleon. Gotta love him, but he better burn this after writing it. One never knows about prying eyes, and his penchant for driving in convertibles with a pretty girls might not be something he'd want to let the bad guys know. They just might set him up...

I think lots of people already know that Napoleon likes fast cars and pretty women. Or is that pretty cars and fast women?

Here in Kentucky it's fast horses and beautiful women. Oh, and bourbon. That all sounds a lot like Napoleon's kind of place.

I'll be having some of that bourbon at my friends Halloween party on Saturday. They're horse people and 'rock musicians'....dangerous mix. They had 6 kinds of bourbon last year...whew. it was gooooood. (do ya think I like bourbon?) Heard they're bringing in something special this year.

That was fun. I know st_crispins has Illya keeping a diary in her St Crispin's Society sequence. And someone else, I can't remember who but it's on FFnet, has Illya writing to his grandmother (I'll not spoil it.)

I remember the story is Illya's voice but had forgotten it was a diary. There, well now we know for sure that they do write things down ;)

Thanks. That's a pleasant fragment, and I love the So… I won't think about any of that today.

My guess would be Napoleon too; but I like that it could be Illya.

Sometimes it's nice to not give a definite when writing first person. Or, third for that matter. But it does sound a lot like Napoleon, so perhaps the next scene is someone finding a diary but not knowing who wrote it.

I could see Napoleon writing this, then destroying it. Although with Illya desire to keep things private he could write something like this, but again destroy it afterwards
