Subject says it all. That way can include folks who might not travel to fanfiction dot net.

If you want to extend the challenge here as well, I can post the parameters. Or do you prefer to keep it separate?

In honor of Groundhog Day, the end of Winter and the prospect of Spring, [livejournal.com profile] section7mfu will commence with the first ever Holiday of Dubious Origins Writing Event.  HODOWE for short ;)  I think that it is pronounced just like it looks (and reminds me of a dog trying to talk), and will be used in future for announcements of writing events in this category.
[livejournal.com profile] carabele is the author of this most excellent idea, first suggested on Fan Fiction, where we will be launching this event as well.  Since many people still prefer to not go there, we are bringing it here in an effort to share with more people, hopefully, both writers and readers.
The posting begins on January 29 and ends on February 4.  The story should be at least 500 words, with more being good and encouraged.  In keeping with the spirit of this site, stories should be appropriate for all.
Any questions?  Okay then, get to writing.

We've been on the radar now for three days, and I thought since it's Sunday,  a little wrap-up thus far would be appropriate.
First of all, thanks to all who have dropped in, comments or no comments, your presence is appreciated.  This is a community dedicated not so much to any genre as much as the hope to be approachable by all, appropriate for our youngest to the most seasoned.  Most of us are in between somewhere, but our love of all things MFU continues to make us want more.

Some of you may already know about this challenge from the fanfiction dot net forums. Glenna approved the idea of extending it here to LJ as well, so the parameters follow:

CHALLENGE: Write an MFU fanfic story regarding the ideas embodied in Groundhog Day. The story doesn't have to necessarily mention or include the day by name; just embody a scenario that fits the concept behind it. Some general ideas in this regard: (1) the shadowy persistence of winter (which could be as a season of the earth or a personal season of the mind, heart or soul), (2) the bright expectation of spring (same approach as previous), (3) the "time-loop" concept (though this one has likely been a bit overused), and (4) the European origin of the date in the "awakening of the ground" on Candlemas.

STATISTICAL STUFF: Minimum of 500 words with no set maximum. Must fit into the overall concepts of this community, e.g., contain no explicit adult material and reflect the 1960s series in style and content.

POSTING: To this forum and on fanfiction dot net, starting on January 29th and ending on February 4th.
