“Is that a … ponytail, Mr. Kuryakin?”

The tone of voice was incredulous, the expression disgust and wonderment.

“Uh, yes sir.  I’ve not had opportunity to go to the barber since my return.  The role did require … a more contemporary disguise.”

The wonderment evaporated along with the Russian’s pass on good grooming.  His hair had never appeased Waverly’s idea of a proper haircut.  Ponytails…

“Very well then, I expect you back here later today with a report and a haircut, Mr. Kuryakin. And do tell Mr. Solo his expense report is as shaggy as your hair.  That is all.”

To ponder little Workmanships

"Admittedly, THRUSH does get rather creative." Illya pointed at the device he'd just disarmed. "Dual timer.

Had I not discovered before cutting the first wire, we both would be pulling up daisies."

Napoleon smiled at his partner's malapropism."That's pushing up daisies."

"Pulling, pushing... does it matter? Dead is dead."

A Book I have—a friend gave—

Illya stroked the old binding of the book his partner had just given him for his birthday, or as Napoleon had dubbed it...un-birthday, helping him to forget his sad past around that date.

"Spacibo. I read this book once as a child then burned it for warmth. It was banned later on, so I never saw it again.

Too Costly for Repairs.

Someday they won't be able to put Humpty Dumpty together again," Solo said to his bed-ridden partner.

"Who is Humpty Dumpty?"

"Not worth explaining. Get better and stop getting shot?"

"Not like I do it on purpose."

"Really? You stepped in front of me when he fired..."

"I did?"

They charged into a small side street.

Now where?” Napoleon panted.

“Next left.” Illya replied, studying the direction finder.

They ran down the cobbled street of the rural village.

If you say left again we’ll be back were we started.”

“Right. Nyet, straight on.”

That’s a dead end.”

Illya shrugged, “he has stopped.”

A study of the wall revealed no secret entrance.

We’ll have to go around.”

On the other side was a village green, full of geese.

“He’s discarded the tracer and one must've swallowed it.”

“Chyort, knew it was a wild goose chase.”

You telling Waverly, or me?”

“Mr. Solo, what do you think about the burgeoning friendship between Miss Dancer and Mr. Kuryakin?”

Napoleon answered, “Mr. Waverly, I think it is beneficial for both of them. They are fish out of water: The only Russian and the only female agents UNCLE has. They understand each other in ways that neither Mr. Slate nor I can.”

“Do you think it would be better if they were partnered?”

“No, Sir. Illya is a perfect match for me in the field; Mark feels the same about April.”

“And, you don’t think their partnership would be better.”

“Not for me. No.”
