“Merry Christmas Illya.  I hope you’re ‘specting Santa to bring you something really, really good.”

The Russian smiled ruefully at his drug addled  partner, wishing fervently that all their problems could be solved by a white haired elf in a red suit.

“Merry Christmas my friend.  For once I truly do have a list for the …”

Illya’s sentence was stopped short when a rumpled looking man appeared, climbed inside the small cubby where the two agents were being held, and began loosening their bonds.

“Hello Santa, I was juss talkin’ bout you.”

Mark Slate just smiled and continued working.

Alexander Waverly laughed heartily as he watched his six year old grandson running around in the Superman costume Father Christmas had brought him. The boy had been scolded by his mother, several times, for climbing on to the dining room chairs and attempting to fly off them.

“Grandpa,” he called over, as he was grounded yet again. “Are superheroes really real?”

The Old Man smiled as he thought about the agents under his command; people who went above and beyond to keep the world safe.

“Yes, my boy,” he replied. “I can tell you absolutely, that there are real superheroes.”

A little break from Christmas: (this double-drabble is being expanded into a longer fic!)

Prompted by: Not probableThe barest Chance ~Emily Dickinson

Not probable—The barest Chance—
A smile too few—a word too much
And far from Heaven as the Rest—
The Soul so close on Paradise—

What if the Bird from journey far—
Confused by Sweets—as Mortals—are—
Forget the secret of His wing
And perish—but a Bough between—
Oh, Groping feet—Oh Phantom Queen!

He walked ever so slowly within the museum corridors, the slightest crunch of sand crackling beneath his shoes. There wasn't a soul there, though he felt he was being watched by unseen eyes.

There were many present...the bodies of mummies; their skin darkened by the natron that had drawn the moisture from their bodies eons ago. The linens as black as they were, from time and resin that had been poured on them.

These ancient bodies had been rubbed and anointed with frankincense, myrrh, palm, lotus, cedar, but none of those scents remained. The air was full of a musty, perhaps mouldy scent of old death. Was one Cleopatra herself, the phantom Queen?

The odor made Napoleon's nose crinkle, finding the smell unpleasant.

He'd been to this place before...the Egyptian Museum near Tahir Square in Cairo. It had been with Illya; a favor they'd done for Waverly, as the curator's daughter and others had gone missing.

That affair nearly cost the Russian his life as well as his soul and his brief dalliance with a girl named Anucis weighed heavily on Illya's heart.

It was possible she carried his child, but after all was said and done, she disappeared. Illya returned once in search of her, but without success.

Now was not the time though for Napoleon to try to help find her. They had a new assignment to deal with...

Who was stealing priceless Egyptian treasures?

Growing up in the tri-state area, we were accustomed to a television station WPIX televising the yule log as their only programming, beginning on Christmas eve.  A few years ago they stopped doing it.  I think they finally brought it back by popular demand. So to me Christmas isn't complete without the Yule Log.

I never had a fireplace and one of my secret dreams is to have a place with one some day...a day dream that probably won't come true, so the Yule-Log video must do.

It's quite mezmerizing. So fix yourself a nice drink, a hot toddy or hot chocolate, put your feet up and gaze into the fire.

Before you know it you'll have visions of sugar plumbs dancing in your head... ZZZZzzzzzzzzz

I can't believe this is the first I've heard that a Man From UNCLE movie had been made, let alone that it will be released in January! How did I miss this?  http://www.bleedingcool.com/2014/12/22/first-image-man-u-n-c-l-e/
