Just a reminder that the deadline for joining in the Valentine Exchange on [livejournal.com profile] muncle is midnight this coming Wednesday, February 11. The early deadline is to allow me some time to get the final post prepared.

Those who participated in 2013 will tell you it's very easy to do - and the rewards are definitely feel good on both sides, for those who receive a valentine from an anonymous friend and those who send the valentines. It's win-win all around. We already have over 100 valentines waiting to be distributed, but there's plenty of room for more!

The rules? Hardly any.
1. Make up a list of UP TO 14 names on your LJ friends list and send that list of names to me. I would like to stress that if you have a short list of 3 names, or a slightly longer list of 17 names, that's all fine. The 14 name list is pretty arbitrary on my part, chosen because Valentine's Day is on the 14th.

2. For each name, offer up a sentiment to express: "You are a wonderful person", "You make me happy", "I love your stories", "I miss you!", "Funniest person on earth" - things like that. Just something you like about that person. Offer "hugs" to someone who is going through a rough time.

3. Although I say LJ, the list need not be limited to just LJ users. If you have friends on tumblr or some other platform, feel free to include them in your list.

4. Send your list to me. You can send it to vysila via the LiveJournal private messaging feature or email it to me at vysila AT comcast DOT net. I will put the list together in a single post which will appear on [livejournal.com profile] muncle on February 14th.

5. The valentine wishes are anonymous. There are no thank-yous to tender, no obligation to reciprocate. The point is simply to make others feel good about themselves and/or their participation in fandom. The reward for those who send the valentine wishes is that they made some friends happy.

Everyone who participates gets a warm fuzzy feeling and a surprise treat!

So please go ahead and make a friend's day. :)

Flight

It was a simple human gesture that had ignited it. Nonchalantly, their hands clasped in heretofore unacknowledged partnership. He was absently stroking his thumb along her index finger, his mind elsewhere, contemplating the completion of his mission, or a quick burger in the commissary. Or perhaps the conjugation of an irregular German verb. She could not tell which. But centered deep within her she knew, she had only to incline a quarter- inch toward him, and his concentration would be riveted on her alone. Did she want his intimate, unwavering attention? It was a very dangerous quarter-inch. She held her breath. She closed her eyes.

A Little Bit of History

Why I Like It:  Actual NYC history is woven into this tale.  I don't live far from Parkway Village, which was indeed where many UN workers lived.  I imagine some still do.  The link takes you to AO3.

Am using this as an opportunity to officially welcome Roselight, who just joined live journal under the user name [livejournal.com profile] rosewit.  Her stories are always a delight and we hope to see a lot of them here on [livejournal.com profile] section7mfu

I thought this story appropriate as it's now tax time here in the U.S.

"Death and Taxes"  Summary: (a simple one) Napoleon is confronted by two enemies.

This is one of my earlier pieces (I love saying that, now that I've been around just long enough to have earlier pieces). Unusually for me, it's a much more light-hearted story, though I think Illya would class it as angst. Basically, one of Illya's loves catches up with him.

Many thanks to Sparky955 who used her medical expertise to beta this chapter!

To read the story from the beginning that includes photos you can go to my journal under PACTNMMT

Also you can find the story without pictures on AO3 here: http://archiveofourown.org/works/892016

Chapter 14

Illya took deep breaths, working at stifling his emotions and remaining calm. Removing his snowshoes, he stepped up to the charred fuselage laying upside down in the snow and took stock of the damage. Both wings were sheared off, the tail section had separated from the cabin just aft of the rear door. He climbed over the exposed bulkhead and peered inside. The blackened interior reeked of burned fuel and chemicals released when the plastics and foam from the seats ignited. The cockpit windows were smashed, the instrument panel was completely destroyed. A large spruce bough had rammed through the side cockpit window on the copilot’s side. In spite of the horrific damage, Illya saw no corpses. Maybe they got out or were ejected.

I'm not too happy with this final part. For some reason, the story would not come to me. I may, some time later, come back and re-write it.

........................................................................................

Part 1 Part 2 Part 3

Illya’s abductors had no idea that U.N.C.L.E agents were on their tail, and therefore felt there was no danger in stopping for coffee. They were so confident in fact, that both operatives, and all four guards, went into the first diner they came across. Their cars were left entirely unguarded. Not that Illya was aware of that. All he knew was that they had stopped but, having little room to manoeuvre, he couldn’t free himself. He managed only to wriggle into a position where he could kick out at whoever opened the trunk. He wasn’t comfortable, and it would do him no good in the long run, but it was a matter of pride. It was shameful to him that he’d been taken so easily in the first place.
