Illya got you a cake, but I think he had an ulterior motive.

I hope your day is as wonderful as you are.

Since everyone else brought the food, I thought I'd bring a story for Marian's birthday present.  Hope you enoy it, cousin.

"Whose birthday is it this time?"

The memo had gone around as usual.  Another celebration in the canteen for one or more people whose birthday had come during the current week.

"I didn't catch names, just the regular Wednesday Birthday Party.  Hey, you can have cake so that should make you happy."

The blond mulled that over.

"True, the cake is enticing.  Very well, I shall not refuse to socialize, but let it be on record that the primary reason for my attendance is…"

"The cake.  Right, you aren't moved by the sentiment."

"Oh, but I am.  I love cake."

A birthday part for [livejournal.com profile] mrua7 should always include music, and especially when it features the Russian.  Take a deep breath and enjoy...

“Today’s September 30th, Illya.”

“I will alert the media.”

“Hahaha.  It’s Marian’s birthday, so I’m going to take her to lunch at Joe Allen’s.”

“Oh yes, she told me.”

“Did she?  And when was that?”

“When we were making plans to go to dinner and dancing this Friday.”

“You’ve got some nerve asking out my girl!”

Everyone is your girl, Napoleon.  Or so you think.  When we are cheek to cheek, I will ask her if she is.”

“Illya…I’m warning you.”

“I am terrified.  I warn you: Do not call too early on Saturday; I probably will not be home.”

I wanted to send you something cute, but Illya wouldn't get in the box, so we sent you a little kitty instead!

Have a great birthday, my friend.

Those of us who live in the tri-state area are very familiar with the "black and white" cookie that's more like a cake. It's yellow cake with half frosted in white and the other in chocolate.  The local bakery here was old when I was a kid, so it's been here forever, and their black and whites are the best.

I once had to bring 2 dozen of them down to my brother in Florida as you couldn't get them there.  Now you see them in Wawa, and other such places but they're not the same.

So this is my birthday cake to me...

You may have missed this. I posted it in my journal.

I can't draw or photoshop well enough to illustrate this scene, but I hope you get the idea. Happy Birthday, MLaw!

"There you are tovarisch."

"No."

"I haven't asked the question yet."

"You are standing beside a large, hollow cake, with Marian's birthday card and an evil smile. The question is implied and the answer is no."

"It's for a good cause."

"Very well. But I draw the line at wearing any special outfits."

"I'm sure she'll be happy with you wearing nothing..."

"...."

"Okay, okay. Your black t-shirt and shoulder holster should do nicely. Now into the cake."

"I really don't know why I let you talk me into these things."

"Because deep down you want to make your fans happy."

“I thought you didn’t do anyone’s birthday,” Napoleon stated as he gestured to the gift Illya was carrying.

“Some people deserve an exception,” Illya replied with an enigmatic air, before strolling away.

“Tell me, Tovarisch,” Solo continued, following his partner. “I’ve never known you give a gift to anyone, who is special enough to warrant a change of policy from you?”

“If you must know, it’s for Marian,” Illya told him. “She has done a lot to keep us alive for the past fifty years.”

“Ah, of course,” the American enthused. “Say, could you add my name to that gift?”
