To all my friends on shore...
Apr. 11th, 2017 11:45 amLike many of you, I'm dusting off the old Dreamwidth account and reacqainting myself with it as it's similar to, but different from Live Journal.
At present the system over there is a bid backlogged as so many are 'importing' their accounts from LJ to DW, plus there's a lot of new user accounts too. So they're asking everyone to be patient. Understandable, as I'm sure they're aware of the reason why there's a mass exodus from LJ.
Anyway on Dreamwidth, I'm under my other user name of mlaw.
So if you are friends with me here, could you please add me to your 'circle' over on Dreamwidth, if you're already there or, plan to join. A number of you have already added me; thank you for doing so.
I'm not leaving Live Journal unless it becomes impossible to remain here, but I don't want to lose any friends in the process of segueing to Dreamwidth.

Date: 2017-04-11 10:26 pm (UTC)It's a major invasion of privacy, which we think is directed more at Russian users (their own people) Many users aren't comfortable on LJ now, so they're reviving or opening accounts on DW...which is similar to LJ.
Section VII, the Map Room, the Canteen, Scrapbook and a few other comms have mirror communities over on Dreamwidth which were set up a few years ago when there were problems, and perceived issues with LJ...so now the contents of those communities here are being 'imported' to DW just in case.
At present I'm converting all my stories posted here in full to only links to AO3 or Fanfiction.net. It's mainly on principle as I don't think LJ wants my 'stuff'...but you never know.

Date: 2017-04-15 01:22 am (UTC)LJ is trolling to go after their Russian users, especially slash related content or any content that now violates Russian law. We already know of the anti- gay situation over there and now it's worked its way to LJ in a very round about way. There's also the fact that LJ in the User agreement states that they have the right to take and use anything you post on LJ, including private message content, they can alter it and do with as they please with anything you post, they can do it anonymously and without consent as they stated if you post it on LJ, it become theirs.
.
That's why so many people are leaving and setting up accounts on Dreamwidth. If anything they're doing it on principle. If you saw the Happy Birthday Dreamwith post on your friends page, go take a look at the comments. Quite a few negative ones. I know several of the Russian users have headed over to DW.
DW in fact has a major delay of importing journals from LJ since there's so many moving to DW. Not too long ago they stated they were getting a large number of new accounts from Ukraine and Russia...writing on the wall.
So having a DW account wouldn't be a bad idea to have as a backup, just in case we can no longer stay on LJ. There's a fair number of people closing their LJ accounts. I'll keep mine for now. I just don't want to lose touch with so many friends here...that's why I'm suggesting to just go open a DW account just in case...you don't have to use it until it becomes necessary.
Right now at my suggestion, stories being posted on Section VII are by links only to AO3 or Fanfiction.net. It's a way of getting around the TOS on LJ.
