Hallowe'en is almost upon us so, if you fancy it, why not give your story a spooky bent.

You'll find the prompts for October 21st down below the cut. For stories due today, simply follow this link.

https://section7mfu.livejournal.com/2642669.html

Don't forget, you can now chose to use one of the prompt words, or to use both in your story (not forgetting the colour element), remembering to state which combination of prompts you are using.

Remember, Section VII is a Gen site, but stories which are Het, Long-term Romance or AU can be posted in [livejournal.com profile] mfu_map_room.

You can post directly to Section VII or, if you wish, you can post your story elsewhere and provide a link. Please say where the link leads as a lot of people are unwilling to go to certain sites. Don't forget, Section VII and the Map Room are both available on Dreamwidth, for those of you who can figure it out (Just let us know if you posted there).
Have fun.

You know what to do... Oh, and since it is Columbus Day (see note at end of entry), here in the U.S., it's appropriate to take note of the accepted facts about who 'discovered' our continent.  It wasn't Columbus, although his arrival, albeit by mistake, did foster the flow of early immigration away from Europe and across the deep blue seas.  History isn't neat, it just is.

Indigenous

[in-di-jə-nəs]Part of speech: adjective

Origin: latin, 17th century

  • Native to a specific area
  • Innate or inherent

Examples of Indigenous in a sentence

  • Respect for indigenous cultures is essential for helping preserve the rich history of the people who came before us.
  • The indigenous birds of the Amazon have colorful plumage and fascinating behaviors not found anywhere else on Earth.

About Indigenous

The world's indigenous peoples represent a vast array of cultural diversity and ancient history. In fact, historians and DNA scientists now believe that Aboriginal Australians represent the world's oldest civilization, stretching as far back as 50,000 years into the past.

Did you Know?

In recent years, the U.S. has seen a growing movement to convert Columbus Day to Indigenous People’s Day, as a way to recognize our nation’s original residents rather than the person sometimes credited with erasing them from history. As of 2019, seven states officially celebrate Indigenous People’s Day (or something similar), along with many cities and local jurisdictions.

………………………………………

Two figures crept along the pathway that bordered a large estate house, their progress a lesson in stealth and expediency. To anyone watching (something that was not to be desired under any circumstances), the men dressed in black, their faces smudged with greasepaint for added camouflage, seemed to be floating atop the gravel beneath them rather than carefully finding footing that would neither disturb nor alert the enemy within at this midnight hour.

Very suddenly the first figure stopped abruptly. For all of the care given thus far, this motion caused the one behind him to skid slightly, creating a sound that sent both men to their knees in hopes of not being seen by those whom they knew were watching for their arrival. There was no doubt that they were expected, and one careless mistake might be all it took to lose their advantage. A streak of silver illuminated the pair, especially the shock of blond hair atop a hissing complaint.

Napoleon!” The exclamation was heard even as it was whispered in Illya’s most exasperated tone. Napoleon Solo shrugged his shoulders, he’d turned his head and missed seeing Illya stop in front of him.

“I’m sorry, okay. It won’t help that we’re breaking our silence so that you can reprimand me.” Illya rolled his eyes in response to what was probably a valid point.

This story sort of ties in with my Short Affair story today, and rather than going and searching for where I posted this to give a link, I figured it would be easier just to repost.

The reds and yellows of the sunrise were just beginning shine above the headstones that surrounded Napoleon Solo as he woke; finding himself sprawled out on the ground in a cemetery with the distinctive odor of old death permeating the air.

Challenge: The Short Affair.

-Prompt Word 1 - Midnight

-Prompt Word 2 – Boy
-Prompt Colour – Silver

Author: mrua7
Title: “The witching hour”
Word count: Approx. 890

Kuryakin looked at his wristwatch; it was nearing midnight, the ‘witching hour’ as Napoleon called it. Which was historically inaccurate.

The true witching hour, sometimes called the devil’s hour, was between three and four in the morning, and its origins went as far back as 1535 to when the Catholic Church banned activities during those hours due to concerns over witchcraft.

It was at this time that was no prayers were generally offered, and women caught outdoors during those hours were sometimes executed for witchcraft. Witch hunts, demonic activity, exorcisms, and rituals had all became part and parcel of this so called witching hour.
