About Milieu

With its French inspiration, milieu appears to be quite a sophisticated word. Its original usage was to describe one’s place in society — were you a member of the upper-crust milieu or were you working class? The definition has expanded to describe the general neighborhood and environmental surroundings, not just social standing.

Did you Know?

Milieu is a loan word, or a word taken from another language with no modification. In French, milieu means middle, or, just like in English, the setting or environment. There’s also a French phrase, “au milieu de,” which means “in the middle of.”

It happens, and sometimes it happens for days.  It's Wednesday here, as in most places, and you need only 100 words to write a drabble.  Talk back to the paper.

Waaaay back during our Crossover Challenge, I had an idea that never got off the ground. I started thinking about it again recently, and this piece was the result. I’m hoping my muse will continue to inspire. (The crossover is not with the Treasure Island novel. I have a hard time with titles, and it’s the best I could do. 😁)

“It’s the waiting I can’t stand,” complained Napoleon, as he and Illya crouched behind a bush.

“I would have thought you would have grown used to it,” the Russian replied. “From surveillance to waiting on intelligence, we spend a lot of time waiting for things in this job.”

“Oh I can deal with that,” Solo told him. “It’s this kind of waiting I have trouble with. We’re like coiled springs, waiting to be released when everything starts.”

Illya shrugged in response.

“Personally, I find this part exhilarating.”

Before Napoleon could answer, their quarry was sighted and they leapt into action.

"I have been thinking," Illya said very seriously as they ran and the tunnel collapsed around them. "Perhaps we should move to Alaska."
"Really?" Napoleon grinned through the pain and leapt over a pile of burning crates, the flames scorching his shoes. "And what's in Alaska, tovarich?"
"It's more what's not in Alaska," Illya told him. "By my calculations there are 300% less people trying to kill us in Alaska. And more importantly Mr Waverly isn't there either."
Yes. Napoleon wasn't looking forwards to explaining this little fiasco either. "Sold," he said, as they ran towards the cave entrance and the waiting crowd of THRUSH guards. "Alaska here we come."
