The June Song Story Challenge Artist: Billy Joel!

The choices are "Baby Grand" and "Leningrad."  Click on the links for the lyrics.

The rules are simple: Write a story of minimally 500 words with no maximum using one of the songs as a prompt.  The song can be the basis of the story, the inspiration for the story or the background of the story.  Section VII is a gen and gen-mature site only; however, if your story leans toward het or slash, do not despair!  Post het stories in mfu_maproom and slash stories in uncle_du_jour.

Leningrad is my favorite song by Billy Joel. I love all of his stuff, but that song makes me think of IK every time! Another great song is "And So It Goes." I don't know if it would make a good Song Story prompt though.

"And So It Goes" is my favorite Billy Joel song and I thought long and hard about using it this month, but it just doesn't match up with the MFU world, in my opinion. My interpretation of the song is roughly, "I know you're going to leave me one day, but I don't care, I'm going to be with you until you break my heart." Every scenario I could think of that someone might write about all seem to point to death fics of slash death fics and it all seemed too sad.

Maybe I over thought it, but that's why I went with "Baby Grand."

Hmmm. My interpretation is more positive. I see it as him having been deeply hurt in the past, but is offering to try it again.

I see IK as having "in (his heart... a room..., a sanctuary safe and strong." He may or may not have to heal from a lover hurting him in the past but he has many dark secrets he hides there. If I ever finish one of the fics I'm writing, it'll deal with that.

I agree with your reasoning about whether to use "And So It Goes" as a prompt. I used to have every album by Joel. Haven't been following any of his newer stuff.
