So, here it is the end of our first full week of July.  School will start up again in a month, which makes me a little sad for the children who don't know what three full months of Summer is like.  That was a true sense of liberation that came upon me, and I imagine others my age; the last day of school and the anticipation of all of those lazy mornings for sleeping in, and the prospect of new experiences and adventures with friends and sometimes distant relatives.

Not so today.  It's July 8 and before we know it Labor Day will be here and the whole holiday cycle will be whizzing past us.  For the fandom that will mean, I assume from past seasons, that we will have a Halloween Challenge and Down the Chimney Affair.  We're not too far away from those prompts and announcements going out from other communities.

Currently we have a Summer of MFU Challenge waiting over on AO3.  I haven't seen any stories posted yet but I'm hopeful that we'll have something in there as July and August progress.  You can find the site for posting HERE

This isn't an official announcement, but we will be running another, bigger challenge that will be open to all genres and also post on AO3.  We're going to host a special challenge commemorating the end of the series, The Man from U.N.C.L.E.  It began its last season in the Fall of 1967, with the final episodes airing in January 1968.  The 7 Wonders of the World Affair was the last look at Solo and Kuryakin, and not the best we'd seen.  I don't actually recall watching it then, and have only viewed it once on the DVD set; it isn't one of my favorites, although David McCallum is quite handsome in that leather jacket.  But, that's not the key here, in spite of pleasant imagery.

This challenge will be an opportunity for writers to give us the season finale you think the show deserves.  What would be the final episode you would have written for MFU?  That is the challenge, and you can start thinking and planning now for what will post in January of 2018... The 50th Anniversary of the Last Episode of MFU

I'm giving this preview now because the minimum word count on this one will be 5000 words.  In the spirit of the MFU 50th Anniversay Mini-Bang, we will have sign-ups for this one, both for writers and artists who  want to team up on a story in order to have an illustrated entry.  It is not mandatory but if you'll go back to AO3 and check out the stories from the 50th mini-bang you can see how the artwork added to the reading experience.

That's all I'll say about it for now, I just wanted to give y'all a heads up on it so you can get started thinking about your stories.  This is a moment for MFU, and we have an opportunity to create a new ending for the series we love, for the men we keep sending off on new adventures.

Thank you. That is a wonderful piece of angsty writing, which will hopefully get my mental wheels turning.
