"Aftermath" a non-challenge story.

Napoleon Solo was a man not prone to outbursts of anger, but after reading through a recent report submitted to Waverly sent his blood boiling. It was the aftermath of a THRUSH scheme, and one that didn’t have a happy ending.
It was now part of his job to read reports submitted by other field agents; his position as Chief Enforcement Agent made Napoleon the heir apparent to Alexander Waverly and one day he’d step into the Old Man’s shoes.
At the moment that meant extra work, extra meetings, as well supervisory decisions that became part of his responsibilities, this on top of his duties as a field agent.
It kept him busy, to say the least.
The report he’d just read made him ball it up and send it flying across his office in a fit of anger. He watched it bounce off the wall above Kuryakin’s head.
“God dammit!” He swore through gritten teeth, his voice seething with outrage.
Illya slowly looked up, not quick to judge. “What is wrong my friend?”
“These THRUSH bastards, they don’t hesitate to kill innocents all in the name of their sick agenda. Eight people, some of them children had their lives snuffed out, and a dozen were seriously injured by these animals.”
“Your ire is understandable Napoleon,” Illya spoke calmly. “Any time innocents are involved makes for a more emotional situation. You are already aware that I do not fare well when it comes to the loss of an innocent while on an assignment.”
“Yes I know. I suppose I’m feeling at a loss right now. How the hell do we stop these heinous acts Illya?”
“One at a time, if need be. We can never give up, we must maintain our resolve and vigilance. These people have no scruples while we do, and because of that fact, they try to take advantage of our moral compass. They have forfeited their very souls... all for the sake of power. Still we will beat them, this I truly believe.”
Napoleon picked up the crumpled report that had landed on his partner’s desk and smoothed it out.
“You’re right, good will triumph over evil, however long it takes.”
“Exactly,”Illya stood.”Now come, life must go on. It is lunch time and I am famished.”
“Some things never change,” Solo chuckled.”Thanks tovarisch for being a voice of reason.”
“As you have done for me on a number of occasions. That is why we work so well together. It is our friendship that binds us and enables us to do this job of ours however difficult it may be at times. It is part of what makes us strong.”
“Amen to that,” Napoleon clapped his hand on Illya’s shoulder as they headed out the door of their office.

Date: 2017-11-04 12:49 am (UTC)My post was me venting about the attack in NY, blowing off steam as I was angry. Some people decided it was about seizing an opportunity to get up on a soap box and address their own agendas, and petty prejudices.
Really glad you're able to read, especially without a massive headache.
