Wow! Such an evocative scene. I could feel the strange tranquility of it, and could almost hear the terrible silences which followed the battles of Flanders Field (even though i have no first hand knowledge of it). Does that make any sense?

Flanders was the site of 5 WWI battles. The fields were unmaintained for years before they were made into a memorial. Today Flanders Fields is apparently home to tens of thousands of poppies.
The site became American Cemetery and Memorial, a World War I cemetery on the southeast edge of the town of Waregem, Belgium. Poppy flowers began to grow after the burial of the fallen soldiers.
Thank you so very much! To me the piece was odd how it evolved as I wrote it. I didn't start out with anything in mind and just went where my muse took me.
