Thank you! "They or Them" referred to by IK and NS is breaking the 4th wall in fanfic, making the characters aware of the writers and what we do to them. The characters look upwards, knowing we writers are looking down on them.

We put the poor lads through their paces, and beat them up, I suppose because we secretly want to 'take care' of them....in so many ways. LOL!
