Thanks for adding this to the Writer's and Reader's choice. I'm guessing you may have played a bit of golf, but if you haven't then your research made everything quite plausible.

I had lessons once - many, many years ago - but never really played. Memory played its part, but I had to do some research and then work out how to describe the geometry and physics.

Absolutely right. I can remember just one occasion when I hit the ball just like you're meant to and it went where it was supposed to go (sadly not as well as in this piece of nonsense), but the thrill was immense. Never achieved it again.
