I had a message from Marian that she has kidney stones, and was being scheduled for surgery. She thinks it will be laser, but hadn't spoken with the surgeon at the time she called.  I'll call her in the morning to see what's going on.
She sends her thanks for the moral support.

I spoke with Marian this morning and she's feeling better after having had a stint  put in to ease the pressure.  She has a UTI, something the doctor wants cleared up before any other invasive procedures.  Hopefully the stone will pass without another one of those, and she'll be all good before she returns in two weeks. Chances are she can go home today.
She added a big Thank You for all of the good wishes and prayers.

Painful but, luckily, usually easily dealt with these days. Please remind her that we're all thinking abut her :-)

Not exactly good news, but at least it isn't bad news. Hope she'll be comfortable again soon.

Actually there was something left out. There was a massive kidney infection caused by a single kidney stone blocking the urethra, plus a urinary tract infection. Serious combination and was lucky I went to the hospital when I did. Had I waited it could have gone very bad for me.

Thanks for your wishes.

It sounds utterly dreadful. What a thing to go through! There can be few things worse than that pain. I'm so sorry. Hope you'll be back to full health again soon. Xx

I was told that the pain is worse than childbirth. Ouch...and that's putting it mildly! Thanks for the good wishes!

Kidney stones can be very painful. Tell her I'm holding good thoughts for her.

I had one that had to be broken up to pass and they were able to go through the urethra to get at it, so no cutting or scar. It was an outpatient procedure and I think I was in and out in about two hours. Most of that was the pre-op routine and then waiting to be sure the anesthesia had worn off (still not allowed to drive till the next day). I hope they can do something as easy for Marian if it doesn't pass on its own before that.

Thanks! I have a single stone 8mm, blocking the urethra which caused all this. Because the kidney infection was so serious, they couldn't take care of the stone yet. So I have to go back for a second procedure.

That is a big stone for the space it is in! No wonder you were hurting.
I hope the infection clears up soon.

Am on Cipro. (orally) for the next three days, but was on it through an IV while in the hospital. Pretty potent antibiotic.

Cipro is supposed to be the best antibiotic for UTIs.

I think that was what my late cat was given when he had an infection and struvite blockage. He somehow managed to cheek them and then spit them out under the sofa. Had to take him back to the vet because the infection didn't clear up. The moral of the story is that you shouldn't crawl under the sofa and spit out your pills.

Hahahahaaaaa! Thank you. No I definitely didn't crawl under the sofa and spit out my pills. Thank you for making me smile. :D

Cipro was the drug in demand way back when there was the anthrax scare.

So happy that it is not life threatening and that she should be home soon.

Please send her our love!

Actually it was life threatening-- massive kidney infection as well as a UTI. They had to clear up the infections, get my blood sugar and BP down. Apparently if I'd waited longer then I would have been in trouble.

I have to have another procedure within the next two weeks. Ugh....

Thanks for the love!!!!

Very glad to hear it's something that can be dealt with - mysteries are the worst.

Hope it all goes smoothly and soon!

Definitely sending get well soon wishes. Marian is such a wonderful and prolific contributor to our community. Love and wishes.

I seem to remember a story awhile back where one of the boys was trying to pass a kidney stone. Maybe someone else's memory is better than mine and can rec it.
