The taxi they were in suddenly was stopped by a mass of people.  “Sorry gents it will be a while before we can move.”

 “What’s going on?”  Napoleon asked

“You gents must be visiting.  It the Barkus Parade.”  The driver explained.

“And what is a Barkus Parade,”  Illya asked the driver.

The Barkus is like no other Mardi Gras parades.  It’s a parade for dogs.  Each dog is dressed up and paraded through the streets of the French Quarter with their humans acting as their escorts.   You never saw anything like this gent.”

Napoleon pulled out some bills and handed them to the driver.   “Come on Illya.  This I must see.”

“I will meet you at the hotel afterward.”

“I know we’re on an assignment, but this is Mardi Gras, and I’d like to enjoy all of it,”  Napoleon said opening the door and stepping out.

“I will meet you at the hotel,” Illya repeated through clenched teeth.

One look at his partner’s face and Napoleon quickly agreed.  As Napoleon headed toward the crowd, he understood something had happened in the past to Illya.  Later he knew Illya would explain if he wanted to, but knowing the Russian, nothing would change his mind when he dug in.
