Nothing in life was entirely black or white.

Illya Kuryakin had spent far too long operating in a shadowy world to think of life as being anything other than many shades of grey. Nothing would ever be clear cut in international espionage business. It was a world of secrets and lies, and of cloaks and daggers. Trust was a rare commodity and, even within a strong bond, skeletons could still be buried.

Nothing in life was entirely black or white; with one exception. If it came down to his life, or that of an innocent, his would always be forfeit.

I know it very well. It's one of my favourite Monkees tracks, and the one to which I point when people say they weren't a legitimate band.

I've also been singing it since I wrote the drabble :--)

One of their best, but I've had it as an earworm since I rediscovered it, which is a bit tiresome.
When did you discover the Monkees? I actually went to see them when they came to London in 1967 - but only to see: no-one could have heard them above the screaming.

My parents were teens in the 60s so I grew up listening to the music of the time. I discovered the TV show when I was about 10 (the same as when I discovered UNCLE), and it was repeated on a Saturday morning.

I think the show must have ended by the time I left home, so I left all my vinyl records of the Monkees behind when I went to university. The records were probably thrown out and I didn't think about them till recently when I saw in a YouTube clip that they often used the same sets and props as MFU (including the ultimate computer). So, I bought a CD - hence the earworm...
