About Bombinate

It turns out the bombination — or buzzing — of mosquitoes does more than just annoy humans. Because female mosquitoes are larger, their buzzes are a lower pitch. This helps males identify and find them for mating.

Did you Know?

Bombinate is a fun word to say, and the Renaissance–era writer François Rabelais may have agreed. Long before it entered English, the earliest form of the word appeared in a satirical piece he wrote about the Latin language.

As she traversed the upper floor, April found herself distracted from the task at hand; she couldn't keep her mind from wandering and worrying. She took a deep breath and cleared her mind but moments later caught herself wondering how Mark was faring with the outer buildings. She huffed with frustration. She'd been trained better than this and she wasn't going to let the infuriating noise get to her.
Some unseen machine within the building was bombinating constantly in a pitch which rose and fell in different parts of the corridor with no clear pattern. It played havoc with her nerves and it wasn't hard to guess that that was it's main purpose.
It put her on edge. It didn't help that she hadn't encountered a single soul throughout the entire building. To all intents and purposes, it seemed to be deserted. But it shouldn't have been. Any moment she expected to see a THRUSHee turn the corner and catch her in the act of investigating the satrap, but nobody ever did.
She approached another door to a thrumming crescendo and could feel her muscles tense up in anticipation. Forcing herself to relax, she slipped through the door and into a room of pure darkness.

Mr. Waverly tightened his grip on his favorite briar, afraid that he would break it, his patience at an end. "Drat it man, stop this infernal bombination and get to your point!". Startled the U.N.C.L.E. head accountant gulped and squeaked "Mr. Waverly, Mr. Solo's expense reports are just nonsense! For what reason would an agent need a rubber ducky?"

Illya felt as though he was about to explode as he was surrounded by dozens of women whose constant bombination had put his nerves on edge. He ducked behind a potted palm tree and pulling his communicator he growled into the microphone sotto voce,"Napoleon, you should be here amongst this cackling gaggle of geese!"

Solo responded in a whisper." If I was, ahem, then we'd never finish the assignment..."

Poor Illya! But on the other hand, Napoleon certainly has a point there!
