About Pulchritude

Known for its carefully regulated proportions and composed movements, Michelangelo’s iconic Statue of David illustrates a pristine corporeal form. Like many other ancient sculptures from Italy and Greece, this work of art aimed for the pulchritude of the human body. Every subject, surface, and expression sought to reveal the perfection and beauty of human beings in any given situation.

Did you Know?

As odd and perhaps un-beautiful as it sounds, pulchritude stems directly from the Latin adjective pulcher, which means "beautiful."

Illya Kuryakin knew he was handsome, but it wasn't of importance him, not in the way Napoleon viewed his own physical appearance. The often mysterious Russian saw it as mere vanity and dismissed it. The women of the U.N.C.L.E. ...Illya exuded pulchritude, perhaps even more so than Solo. They often referred to the blond as 'the fifth Beatle' because of his hair style. Rock star status was something a spy like Kuryakin wanted to avoid; he needed to be invisible. That was much safer.

Mr. Waverly knew that the ideal image of UNCLE had a certain pulchritude that was impossible to achieve. People where imperfect, and UNCLE could never be as he truly wanted it to be. As the founder of his organization it had taken from the end of World War Two to the Mid 50's to achieve what he had. There was room for improvement but having agents such as Solo and Kuryakin gave him hope that someday his ideal would be closer to reality.
