The Fun House
April dressed in a lacy blouse, chiffon pants, hair up in a bun, and two-inch heel boots all in black met up with Mark, also in black.
“Luv, I think you’re a little overdressed. We’re going into a funhouse, not a nightclub.”
“A woman should always be well dressed, darling. Why are we in this spook house again?” April asked as she shivered. Although an UNCLE agent, things like this scared her.
“The Thrush courier hid a package for his partner in here before he was killed. We’re to find it before they send another agent to get it.” Mark reminded her, smiling. It was not often he saw his partner uncomfortable. “Do you want me to hold your hand, luv?” He teased.
“Hilarious Mark, I’ll remember this,” she huffed. April moved closer to Mark as they progressed further into the darkened house.
Arriving at a split in the main tunnel, “Why don’t we each take one of the tunnels and meet up at the other side where they join again,” Mark suggested, “We’ll cover more ground faster.”
‘
Although unhappy with the suggestion, April realized Mark was right. She took the north tunnel of horror while Mark took the south tunnel. Turning on her flashlight, she started slowly swinging it back and forth
A little distance in, she had to walk through a horizontal revolving cylinder. Trying to walk without falling was impossible. After the second fall, she crawled out of it, tearing her right pant knee. Next, she was startled by air jets shooting up from the ground, causing her to fall once more, tearing the left pant knee and pulling her hair out of its bun.
Stopping to catch her breath, she looked ahead to see a floor undulating up and down before tipping from side to side. Starting through this section of the tunnel, she found herself being thrown from side to side catching her blouse, pulling the lace, causing holes. “Accounting better not give me a hassle with my expense account after this,” she grumbled.
Almost to the end of the tunnel, she reached a slide. Huffing out, she sat at the top and pushed off. Halfway down, her flashlight flew out of her hand, leaving her in the dark. As she hit the end of the slide, an illustrated skeleton dropped in front of her causing her to leave out a scream then falling onto a box.
“Luv,” Mark yelled, heading toward his partner. Arriving, he found her sitting on the ground. Her hair was a mess, her blouse and pants torn, and the missing package in her hand. Trying not to laugh, “Are you alright, luv?”
“Here,” she shoved the package at him. Standing up and brushing herself off, she glared, “Don’t say a word. You can take the package to headquarters while I go change.” Leaving Mark standing there, she headed toward home.
