I rescued 5 baby mice a few years ago. Once they were old enough to determine their sex, I had to separate them. Then when they started getting out of their enclosures by jumping, it was time to release them. Took them into a wooded area where they had plenty of cover, and left seeds and grain for them to eat. I'd like to think they survived.
One of mine was an expert escapologist, and I still haven't figured out how he would get out. One day, I discovered him chewing on my phone charger. In the end I had to put him a fish tank (dry, of course).
These little ones were wild mice, and man could they jump. Kept them in very deep plastic bins in the bathtub, I finally had to keep the lids on the bins, (they did have air holes) They escapees were pretty tough to catch.
They were so cute. One of them, the largest would sit up in my palm and drink from the eye dropper. I used kitten milk replacer of all things, then eventually weaned them to seeds etc.
