The city seemed a live thing to the young men who stood among crowds of people as they watched fireworks going up and exploding in myriad colors and shapes. Napoleon Solo relished the sight and found himself feeling singularly proud of what it represented. He cut his eyes discreetly to watch Illya, his Soviet partner in the U.N.C.L.E. The American agent was never completely sure what might be going through the complicated mind of the blond wunderkind.

"Hey, Kuryakin!" Over the sound of the exploding fireworks and the 'ahs' of the spectators, Napoleon found himself shouting to the other man. Illya seemed to be highly entertained by the sight of this night's festivities. Illya turned to respond however, his face showing a big smile that reassured Napoleon in his decision to bring the recently arrived Russian to such a completely American event.

"This is extraordinary, Napoleon. Thank you for bringing me to see it. I have always wanted to learn the art of pyrotechnics, it seems like something I would enjoy very much."

Napoleon wondered at that. In the interim of their partnership's first year it had become very clear that the Russian was indeed interested in things that go 'boom!'. Napoleon smiled now at the look of enjoyment on Illya's suddenly youthful face.

"I have no doubt that should Waverly ever decide to train anyone in pyrotechnics, it will be you tovarisch. Are you ready to go grab something to eat. I can smell something coming from over there and I bet it's a big pile of hamburgers and hotdogs. I don't know about you, but I'm starved."

Illya was still smiling as the two friends made their way towards what turned out to be a lavish spread of food.

Yes, America was going to work out just fine.
