Soon they were having to tread water.

“Bozzzzhe moyyyy, it is colddddd,” Illya managed through chattering teeth.

“You c.c.can say thatttt againnnnnn.”

“Ittt isssss c.c.c.cold.”

“I didnn’tt mean litttterallyyyyy.”

“Thhhen whhhy ssssay iiitttt?”

“Nevvver miiinddd. Weeee nneeed ttto geeett ouuuttaa heeerrre.”

“I thhhinkkk I cannnn reaaach thhhe graaaattte.”

With tired and heavy limbs, Illya gripped the metal bars. Reaching through the gap, he felt and released the catch.

Bracing himself against a small rocky shelf, Napoleon helped support Illya as he pushed the grate open.

Finally, both agents hauled themselves out onto the ground, glad to escape the cold water.
