This was a story where I visited the possibility of divine intervention for Illya and Napoleon, just as I did in my recent fic "Blood Moon." Hope you enjoy this one as it briefly addresses Illya's on-going conflict with the subject of his religious beliefs or his professed 'lack of."

Thanks for posting this and I enjoyed rereading it. Illya is torn between what he believes and what he experiences. Nice story.

A very moving story, shows the depth of feelings in Illya, from anger, to love and compassion for others, to his willingness to risk his life for others. I see Illya here as a man not disbelieving in God, but fighting his great anger with God. But he's from the Ukraine, and if there are any people more tenacious than the Irish in holding onto their faith under severe persecution, it's the Ukranians. Illya will come around. Peace will be his.

Sympatico! From the series I've always thought of Illya as an only child, all the more precious to his family because of that, although the fanfic stories of his loss of syblings takes nothing away from his tragic past that he displays in his interaction with others. Except Napoleon. Napoleon broke through that early in their relationship. Series-wise, I'm talking. Still, Illya must suffer or had suffered from survivor's guilt, and probably wanted to see his family once more just to bawl them out and rail at them for not being there. He must have longed for his parent's approval all through his life, wondering... but he had something that told him what he did was the right thing. I think he had a very well developed moral compass and that made his move to UNCLE a natural for him. And yet... was his father proud of him? That's very important for a man, a father's approval. Some day I think when Illya least expects it, he'll figure it out... that what his parents did for him was the same as how he lived his life - for others, offering his very life so others could live freely. Then his fists will unclench and the world will open more fully for Illya.
