They sat together using a wooden crate as their table;  a single white candle balanced in a glass illuminated the scene.

“We’re nearly out of supplies.

“Stop complaining and deal.”

Napoleon put down his cards, looking to his pile of peanuts. “Well?”

“Your bet.”

“Everything in.”

Illya shoved his stash into the pot.

“Not enough.”

Patting his pockets, he found a bag of airline peanuts.

“Read em’ and weep,” Napoleon grinned. “Eighteen.

Twenty-one...Blackjack. I believe I win.” Illya happily gathered his prize.

“What about me? That’s all the food we have.”

Illya tossed him the cellophane bag.

“Gee thanks.”
