Napoleon covered his ears with his hands in desperation.”Illya can’t you shut up that thing?”

“Squaaaaaawk, screeech, la la la la la la laaaaaa.” It kept lilting a scale while walking across the top of its cage.

“Do I look like a parrot expert?”

Solo stood up, heading towards the kitchen in the safe house in which they’d been sequestered. He and his partner were a captive audience to an African grey parrot that was continually sounding off

“Give us a kiss give us a kiss. Lalalalaaa.”

“I can’t believe we’re stuck baby sitting a bird,” he called. “You want some coffee partner.”

“No thank you….I cannot understand why they would not have stocked the pantry with some tea leaves,” Illya complained. “You do recall, this bird has Doctor Ventura’s formula in its brain do you not?

“Don’t remind me. The sooner we get this thing to R&D the happier I’ll be.”

‘Squaaaaaak, screeeeeeeeeech. I love you I love you,” the bird sang out.

Kuryakin decided to turn on a radio sitting atop a nearby table in the sitting room in hopes it would drown out the birds noise.  Luckily they were in the middle of nowhere, so disturbing the neighbors was not a concern.

A song by the Dave Clark Five came on, beginning with a recognizable drum intro.

I'm in pieces, bits and pieces)

Since you left me and you said goodbye

(I'm in pieces, bits and pieces)

All I do is sit and cry

(I'm in pieces, bits and pieces)

You went away and left me misery

(I'm in pieces, bits and pieces)

And that's the way it'll always be...

Illya watched in amazement as Harry the parrot finally became quiet, cocking his head as the bird was listening to the music.

Suddenly the he started bobbing in time with the beat. Harry spread his wings and moved his claws moving up and down along the perch.

“Napoleon, you have got to see this!”

Solo came out with his coffee mug in hand, watching the birds antics while the song continued to play.

“I thought you said you didn’t know anything about parrots?”

“I did and I still do not. I am as fascinated by this as you are.”

As the song ended, Harry stood completely still, cocking his head again, this time the bird began to speak.

“Blending a hydrocarbon fuel with the nitrous oxide becomes, a nitrous oxide fuel blend... monopropellant. Squawk,...monopropellant rocket, monopropellant rocket. add nitro, add nitro…”

“Amazing, I think we have discovered the trigger for it to reveal elements of the formula in question….hmmm Nitrous oxide," Kuryakin smiled.

“That’s laughing gas isn’t chum?”

“Precisely, but apparently that combined with a hydrocarbon creates a rocket fuel, now the addition of nitro, that I do not understand.”

After the disc jockey finished his commercial, he announced another song. “And now we’ve got ‘I’m not your steppin’ stone’ by Paul Revere and the Raaaaaaiders."

"I- I- I - I- I'm not your stepping stone

I -I- I- I -I'm not your stepping stone

You're trying to make your mark in society

Using all the tricks that you used on me.

You're reading all those high fashion magazines

The clothes you're wearin' girl are causing public scenes..."

The bird became even more wildly animated with the beat but instead of talking it began squalking again.

"Wait a second," Napoleon picked up his communicator, calling headquarters. He asked them to call the radio station and request "Bits and Pieces."

"Okay cousins, by special request we have a repeat performance of "Bits and Pieces!" This goes out to Napoleon. Napoleon? What, is somebody dedicating a song to a dog?"

As soon as the song began Harry started his antics, and repeated more more of the formula.

Napoleon ignored his partner's snickers,”Well at least he’s not screeching anymore.”

“Squaaaaaaaaaaawk, lalalalalalalalalaaaaaaaa, la la laaaaa, ha haa haaaaaa! Wanna bet wanna bet! I love you" Harry erupted into a series of catcalls. “I’m in pieces! I’m in pieces!”

“I spoke too soon,” Napoleon shook his head as he retreated into the kitchen. There was a bottle of aspirin in one of the cabinets and he pulled the cotton from itside it and stuffed a piece into each of his ears with a sigh...

Ahh, I finally have a spare moment to read a story! So glad it was yours. Harry the parrot is hilarious, and Napoleon's consternation over how to shut him up is the stuff of legend. (I should know--we had a squawky African Grey for years. He did a rather amazing imitation of our smoke alarm. Often. Usually at 2AM.)

Now all Illya and Napoleon need is for Harry to meet Jellyroll the cat...I can see it now: "When Harry Met Jellyroll." It would be epic. I wonder who would prevail...? :D

Hilarious :-) , and fancy thinking Napoleon is a dog's name. I'm going to be singing that song all night now, and I didn't even watch the video, LOL.

A pleasant mini-affair - with a very pleasant pic. They are handsome!

Love the bit about the dog. And why shouldn't someone dedicate a song to a dog? Bet that got some interesting theories from the listeners.
