Title: Didn’t We Just Do This?

Word Count: 550

Napoleon Solo slowly returned to consciousness, but found himself disoriented and unable to see at first. As his eyesight slowly adjusted as best they could in the darkness, he sniffed the air, finding it musty, and still not able to make out his surroundings.

“Good, you are awake, finally,” Illya Kuryakin snorted. His voice came from beside Solo, though to Napoleon his partner’s voice sounded odd, somewhat nasally and congested.

When the American’s eyes finally focused he realized why there was so much pressure in his head; he was hanging upside down, suspended by the ankles with his wrists handcuffed together.

“Are you upside tova…?”

“Yes,” Illya suddenly sneezed, interrupting his partner’s question.

“Gesundheit..”

“Thag you.”

“Tovarisch, I can’t believe this is happening again. Weren’t we strung up like two sides of beef only a week ago?”

“Yes, but it was eight days ago to be precise, on Dew Year’s Eve.” Kuryakin sneezed again. *

“Napoleon let go a long sigh.”Well if I recall last time you were able to pull yourself up, cut yourself free with that knife in your shoe and you then freed me. My back is still bothering me from when I fell on top of you and I tore my suit jacket too.”

“Oh so dow you complain? The suit was dot my fault. I hab a good mind to leabe you hanging here.”

“You wouldn’t...would you chum? I mean, I’m grateful that you were able to get me down…really.”

Illya sneezed again and was finally able to clear his throat.”Tsk. Of course I would not leave you, do not be silly.”

“Thanks chum...so what’s keeping you?”

“Keeping me? Well I have bad news for you.”

“Oh pray tell tovarisch?”

“I am not wearing the shoe with hidden knife. If I was I would not be able to free us as they strung me up with chains this time.” If Illya were able to do so, he would have shrugged.

“Oh joy...”

The cell door creaked open silencing both of them until and a familiar voice whispered in the darkness.

“Napoleon Illya? Are you there darlings?”

“April?”Solo responded.”Over here.”

She made her way in the dim light, knocking into a table with just a small penlight to guide her.

“Oh darn, I think I just put a run in my stocking, and they were brand new!”

“April my love, I’ll buy you a new pair. Just please get us out of here?” Napoleon called.

Once she found them, and shining the light on their chains; she was able to pick the locks, freeing her fellow agents in no time.

Both men fell to the floor with a thud, though there was a ripping sound.

“Damn!” Napoleon cursed.” I tore my trousers.”

“Ah, then they will go nicely with your damaged jacket my friend,”Illya grinned.

“Don’t be a smart aleck Russian,” Napoleon snapped.

“I was not being smart aleck and was merely stating fact.”

“Children, please? “April clicked her tongue.” Less talk and more action. We need to get out of here before they discover you’re gone.”

“Yes ma’am,” Napoleon saluted her.

Illya for once, said nothing and simply smiled, following April and Napoleon as they all headed out the door to their freedom; the large rip in the rear of Solo's trousers his only view.

The way Illya is speaking at the start is exactly how I sound today.

I love the way they still bicker, despite the uncomfortable situation.

I do indeed lol.

I understand what you mean about the release valve thing. It's like how people who work with the dead having strange senses of humour. A friend of my Dad's is a Mortician, and his humour is more twisted than mine. It's his way of staying sane.
