Introducing the "Great Episode Challenge"
Feb. 5th, 2015 11:45 am
MFU, as we all know, was created at a time when most television series aired “stand alone” episodes that, unlike today’s concept of “story arcs,” would present issues and situations that were never addressed or resolved.
I think answering those questions can form the foundation for many fan fiction stories.
The Great Episode Challenge, being offered once a month, will look at two episodes that never provided a satisfactory resolution regarding a scene, a character’s motivation or something similar.
The challenge is to choose one of the presented episodes and compose a story that answers the question raised. If you have already written a story that you think best answers that question, by all means, please repost it.
As always, there are rules: (behind the cut)
1.Story must be a minimum of 500 words. There is no maximum length.
2.Please remember that Section VII is a Gen, Gen-mature site and stories published here must fall into those categories. Slash versions are to post on Uncle du Jour, OR one of the other sites of your choice that celebrates that version of MFU. However, it’s important to please cross-reference and link your story back to Section VII, the original site of the challenge.
3.The Subject line should include the phrase ”The Great Episode Challenge” the date of the challenge, and the story title.
4. Please format this way:
Challenge: The Great Episode Challenge
Episode title:
Question Choice:
Your Title:
Author:
Rating:
Word Count:
4.Please use the tag: episode_challenge, gen, or gen-mature
5. The Challenge will given on the first Thursday of the month.
Posting is on the third Thursday and runs through Saturday. (If you miss the posting date, no worries; post when you can making sure you follow Rule 3)
Choice #1: The Hula Doll Affair
In the episode’s prologue, Illya is in a bunker with an unnamed female UNCLE scientist waiting for the outside temperature to reach 90 degrees so he can observe the M4 explosive detonate. He seems quite attracted to her, even commenting that it is getting warm in there to which she replies, “Thank you.” She is never seen or mentioned again. The question is: What if Illya had acted on his attraction?
Choice #2: The Summit Five Affair
When Harry Beldon reveals himself to be a THRUSH agent, he says that he has waited 7 years to make his move. How long he has been with UNCLE, was he always THRUSH or was he a defector, and how he was able to remain undetected are not explained. The question is: What was Harry Beldon’s motivation to betray UNCLE?
