This is a story I wrote for one of the HOWDOWE challenges here on Secton VII.  Thanks to Laurose8 for reminding me of this piece!

Summary: They say we are the sum total of our experiences. Some take those experiences and live with them, others live in spite of them. What we perceive isn’t always the truth.

Title: "On the run"

Rating: Gen

War-1

Two men stood side by side, dressed in period costumes from the American Revolutionary war. Dark blue jackets, with brass buttons, white breeches, stockings and tri-cornered hats on their heads.

In their arms were balanced replicas of rifles from the time period. They looked all the part and ready to reenact one of the first battles of the war that took place at 6 a.m. on Lexington Green in Lexington Massachusetts.

Yet there was an obvious problem with their attire; one of them was wearing a pair of black laced Oxfords shoes, while the other man, a shaggy-haired blond, was wearing a pair of black loafers; neither of which were anywhere near the kind of footwear worn during the time period.

The LIFECYCLE: Knowledge challenge is in the books. Thanks to all who participated! So now comes the third seasonal challenge of the year, the second HODOWE (e.g. HOLIDAYS OF DUBIOUS ORIGINS WRITING EVENT) challenge. This HODOWE centers on PATRIOTS' DAY!

Here are the guidelines for the HODOWE: Patriots' Day seasonal challenge.

CHALLENGE: Write an MFU fanfic story regarding the ideas embodied in Patriots' Day. The story doesn't have to necessarily mention or include the day by name; just embody a scenario that fits the concept behind it. PATRIOTS DAY isn't an international holiday of course, but it isn't even really any sort of nationally recognized holiday in the U.S. It is observed strictly in the states of Massachusetts, Wisconsin and Maine, with observance also "encouraged" in Florida. Prior to 1969, it was celebrated on April 19th. Since 1969, it has been celebrated on the third Monday in April. It was initiated to commemorate the Battles of Lexington and Concord fought during the American Revolutionary War; so some general ideas for the challenge would include (1) the ideals of the American Revolution, (2) memoriam of those who fought for national independence anywhere and anytime, and (3) personal liberties. And of course the Boston Marathon takes place on this day and has every year since 1897; so there is a natural tie-in there as well.

STATISTICAL STUFF: Minimum of 500 words with no set maximum. (Drabbles are not incorporated in this particular challenge.) Must fit into the overall concepts of this community, i.e., contain no explicit adult material and reflect the 1960s series in style and content. Please tag your story with the hodowe and patriots tags.

POSTING: To this forum starting on Saturday, April 18th, and ending on Saturday, April 25th.
