I happen to have taken some positive moments from The Return Movie.  For one, Illya still had it in spades, and I enjoyed every bit of the interaction between him and Napoleon.  Admittedly, there wasn't enough of it, but... it still inspired me to write some stories based around what was there.

This is the first in a series of stories related to that movie, the concepts and situations involved.  You can access the rest of the stories by following this... House of Vanya.

Leaving UNCLE

Vanya's past seems to have caught up with him. An old enemy needs help.

Napoleon has got himself in too far. He needs to find his old partner — but he hasn't seen Illya for fifteen years.

What did happen in Yugoslavia? Why did Illya resign? And how on earth did he become a fashion designer?

(Belated, sorry — I was away yesterday.)

Vanya is notoriously reclusive even in the face of persistence

I picked the prompt for today's The Daily Prompt, and then remembered, after seeing some things about Mardi Gras, that I had written a story that fits the prompt.

The Masquerade

Although it isn't new, I'm sharing it in the spirit of the prompt.  The setting is after the Return Movie... and part of a series I've been doing for a few years.

Post-series, pre-1983 movie. Napoleon has lost touch with Illya since leaving UNCLE and memory is stirred by a fashion display. Could that be Illya... modelling?

This was, I think, the second story I ever wrote and is about Illya's Yugoslavia Affair — the one that led to his resignation from UNCLE (and is part of a longer story that I wrote in parts when I was new to all this).

The Yugoslavia Affair. Why Illya left UNCLE.

This is one of the first pieces of MFU fiction I wrote, partly inspired by the mismatch between the series and the Return movie. It's quite long - over 7000 words in two chapters - and forms part of a series. The sequel to this episode is "Shake hands forever", when all is resolved.

We had Writers' Choice yesterday, but today is good for recommending stories as well.
I was looking at the MFU Archive, one of the tried and true sites for MFU fiction, and found a series of stories based around the premise of the Return Movie.  You may be one of those who disdain the film, but I have taken inspiration from it in my own House of Vanya series.
[livejournal.com profile] hypatia_66 has a very satisfying and engaging take on it that I believe will make for a  pleasureable afternoon of reading for everyone who checks it out.
You can find her page HERE and the series is All In Honor.  Just a note, the last entry (part 5), is actually a prequel to the series, so it works if you read it first rather than leaving it to last; just my preference now that I've read it.
