What if the movie (you know, The Movie), doesn't beget a sequel and that announcement is observed and processed by the Hollywod powers that digest such things.  What if someone decides it could be a successful TV series?  I know, big stretch because it already was a successful TV series.  But can it work a second time?  Can it duplicate the success of, say... Hawaii Five-0? Do we have actors who can pull it off better than the movie?
Let's see what the community thinks.

Waverly was a tough call... With a haircut, I could see Billy Connolly in the part.

Didn't think of him, but he's sort of a big name for an American TV show... He was great in The Kingsmen.

Okay, I liked the movie.

I don't see WB deciding on a TV show though, if they don't go the movie sequel route. And they own the property, so anything would have to receive their go-ahead.

No, likely not. Though nowadays many previously "movie-only" actors are doing TV series. And Cavill to me is sooooooooooooooo Solo. Ah well.

Robert Vaughn as Waverly, yes. I agree with Spikes on that.

I like the new 5-0. I've only seen some of the original after the fact, and it's clearly quite a different beast. How do fans of original 5-0 feel about the new one?

I wonder what sort of show would come out of some applied TV genius if the effort were to do the same thing: remake it, but make it newer, more modern, stick loosely to certain canon, but then just take it somewhere else. I feel like the closer they try to stick to original, the more fans they alienate. I bet the right people could come up with something really good. They could even play around with gender in the casting... with race... make Illya Iranian or North Korean or... who knows. It would be an interesting experiment and I would definitely give it a chance if someone tried to create it.

If they mess with genres and nationalities, I wouldn't see it.

I'm not taking the mick with my answers. I do think us Brits play this sort of stuff very well, and both West and Bettany have great track records in the US. There needs to be the ability to do tongue in cheek extremely well to carry it off, and Brits can do that blindfold (I always think of RV as an honorary Brit...).

I also think that a female Waverley would go with what the focus groups are likely to want, and I suspect a female operative needs to be in the mix as well, because of the way the world has moved on (not my choice for viewing pleasure but being realistic here) which is why Ritchie introduced Gaby to the "team" in the expectation/hope that a franchise was coming out of it.

As it happens, and quite against my expectations, I absolutely loved Gaby. I thought she was a great character.

And I'm not sure about another movie, but although it didn't burn any houses down, Ritchie may have just enough clout to say "#1 was the intro, #2 we're in the story properly."

Yes to this. I loved the first as an intro, you could really see it build, fingers crossed there will be a sequel.

I think for Waverly, Alfre Woodard, Irrfan Khan or Vinnie D'Onofrio would be excellent.

I loved the movie to bits. Tried the series afterward but couldn't get into it.

Would love a sequel, but I don't see it happening, sadly :(

I think a rebooted series could work. Would love it with the movie cast!
