I have the tools to do the eggs but not the patience or talent. I had an uncle who was Russian Orthodox and he taught his kids (my cousins) how to make beautiful eggs. My nut roll recipe was from his church but I've altered it a bit over the years. It called for "potato water" and it was too difficult to make it when I needed to make 100 rolls. I substituted milk and changed the ratios a bit so I could make the dough in my Kitchenaid mixer.

One of these days I'll sit down and start painting my wooden eggs, though I do have a few blown eggs to work on as well. There's a tool I need to hold the eggs in place and allows you to rotate them while painting but I need to save up for it. Not high on my list of priorities right now.

Sadly I didn't paint those, but I have all these ideas floating around in my head, I have the paints, the brushes and eggs; one of these days I'll be in a calm enough state of mind to start doing it. Hope you had a nice Easter!

I would have loved being given Easter eggs painted that way, as some of my Orthodox friends use to make (but I didn't meet them this year).

I'm trying my hand at painting eggs, takes a steady hand to say the least. I just love them. I'm an Irish Catholic but just love the Orthodox tradition of Pysanky.
