Four Years of Gen Fiction
Sep. 13th, 2016 03:58 pmIt's hard to think back to before Section VII, it's become so much a part of my daily routine. I did a quick little computation and in the four years since we all started on this venture, nearly two thousand stories have been added to ff.net, a good portion of them the products of challenges here at S7.
I distinctly remember someone mentioning when the numbers hit one thousand MFU stories on ff.net, just previous to the launch of Section VII. Keep in mind that represents a span of twelve years, and the stories now have nearly tripled in four years time. Although all genres post in the same place, the majority of them within the new number are gen, something that I think is a significant statistic considering the numbers had been diminishing in that category.
All of this to say, I think we've all been involved in a worthwhile effort. While everyone has tastes unique to their own points of view, I think the health of the Gen story is intrinsic to the well being of MFU in general since it captures the essence of the original TV series. I know that may draw some contrary opinions, and that's fine; but what we're here to celebrate is the imagery and comraderie of Solo and Kuryakin as partners and friends whose primary aim is to keep the world safe as they did back in the 60's.
We're not political, and we're not hyping something we can't watch on our coveted dvd collection.
We just like Gen.
And we really like Napoleon and Illya. So much so that the stories keep coming and the fandom continues to grow.
Congratulations to everyone involved, writers and readers alike. We may not have the most stories, but we see new ones every week from a diverse group of writers, from different parts of the world.
How awesome is that ...
