It's hard to think back to before Section VII, it's become so much a part of my daily routine.  I did a quick little computation and in the four years since we all started on this venture, nearly two thousand stories have been added to ff.net, a good portion of them the products of challenges here at S7.
I distinctly remember someone mentioning when the numbers hit one thousand MFU stories on ff.net, just previous to the launch of Section VII.  Keep in mind that represents a span of twelve years, and the stories now have nearly tripled in four years time.  Although all genres post in the same place, the majority of them within the new number are gen, something that I think is a significant statistic considering the numbers had been diminishing in that category.
All of this to say, I think we've all been involved in a worthwhile effort.  While everyone has tastes unique to their own points of view, I think the health of the Gen story is intrinsic to the well being of MFU in general since it captures the essence of the original TV series.  I know that may draw some contrary opinions, and that's fine; but what we're here to celebrate is the imagery and comraderie of Solo and Kuryakin as partners and friends whose primary aim is to keep the world safe as they did back in the 60's.
We're not political, and we're not hyping something we can't watch on our coveted dvd collection.
We just like Gen.
And we really like Napoleon and Illya.  So much so that the stories keep coming and the fandom continues to grow.
Congratulations to everyone involved, writers and readers alike.  We may not have the most stories, but we see new ones every week from a diverse group of writers, from different parts of the world.
How awesome is that ...

It very nearly passed me by, but this week marks the first anniversary of 'The Short Affair' challenge.

It all began when I wrote the first, in what I had planned to be, a series of short stories. [livejournal.com profile] mrua7 like the idea so much, that she suggested I make it into a regular challenge here on Section VII. From a relatively slow start, the challenge has grown, and we have had many, many wonderful stories as a result.

Thank you to everyone who has taken part over the last year. I hope you are enjoying it, and will continue to join in.

These were the first entries into the Short Affair Challenge.

January 13 marked the 3rd Anniversary of Section VII.  That's 3 years of great stories, conversation and companionship here with each other and our favorite spies.  Thank you to every one  who has been a part of it, whether from the outset or recently.  Whether you're writing the stories, or reading and discussing them... I'm honored and so very grateful for all of you.

I decided to continue the story that started two years ago with this first PicFic offering.  If you haven't yet read the re-post of the original story, you can do it HERE

Two months after the death of Garrison Nealy...

“Illya, something new has come in regarding the drowning death of Garrison Nealy.  Mr. Waverly wants us upstairs ASAP.”

Illya frowned at the news, reminded again of the scene in California and his partner’s morose behavior.

“Garrison had a heart attack.  What sort of news could there be concerning his death?”  Napoleon just shook his head.  Something told him that he had been right all along; it wasn’t merely a heart attack that had killed his agent.

“I don’t know, but we may have another round of beach weather ahead of us if my instincts are correct.”  A sigh of resignation met that statement as the Russian acquiesced to the inevitability of Napoleon’s instincts being on target.  They usually were.

What can turn Paradise into a prison?  How does a man start out with such high expectations, only to have his world come crashing down around him?

                        original

Napoleon Solo was wondering about all of these things and more as he looked at the body that had washed up on the beach in this Southern California town.  So far the police had managed to keep the crowds away, and only Solo and his partner were allowed in at this point, their cards paving a way to the center of the crime scene.

One minute, they were sitting at a Polynesian luau on a lush, palm tree covered island in the middle of the South Pacific, the next minute  Napoleon and Illya were running nearly naked, and for their lives along the windswept tropical beach.
