I cannot resist referencing a well known McCallum appearance... The Outer Limits: Form of Things Unknown

THURSDAY, MAY 28

Morphology

[mor-FAH-lə-jee]

Part of speech: noun

Origin: Greek, mid-19th century

1. The study of the forms of things.

2. The study of the forms of words, in particular inflected forms.

Examples of Morphology in a sentence

"The biologists were particularly concerned with the changes in morphology between species."

"Learning a foreign languge will likely help you understand the morphology of your native language better."

About Morphology

What do biologists and linguists have in common? No punchline here, but they both study morphology, or the shape of things. A biologist would be interested in how the shape of a certain plant’s leaves or how the wing structure of bees have changed over time. The linguist will study morphemes, or the parts of words and how they combine to form words, sentences, and language.

Did you Know?

Remember the character Morpheus from “The Matrix”? Turns out that name had a hidden meaning. In Greek, “morphē” means form — the Greek god Morpheus was known for creating and shaping dreams, as well as waking people from illusions. Morphology doesn’t have anything to do with sleep, but it does concern the forms and shapes of things in reality.

It's actually David McCallum's birthday, but I think most of us use it for the fictional event as well.  In honor of that, I was wondering if we might take a trip into the realm of storytelling, one sentence at a time.  I wonder what sort of birthday it might be for our Russian if we have a little fun with that.

Here's the prompt and the first sentence, just post yours in the comments below.  I hope to see more of the story...

Illya's birthday wish was becoming a bit of a problem.

This photo has some curious little details that no one would have suspected would be sussed out when it was taken 50 years ago.  The story it belongs to is  HERE, a Short Affair by [livejournal.com profile] hypatia_66
So, poor Illya is face down and looking the worse for it.  Not to be ignored are the brown socks, a serious fashion faux pas.  And the heels are as high as the famous Cuban heels on the Beatle boots, a serious inch and a half of added height for (according to some records), the 5"7" Kuryakin.  I suppose it helped even out the difference on screen, between him and Solo.  Of course I'm referring to them by their characters, we all know Mr. McCallum was shorter than Mr. Vaughn; it makes no difference, we love him just the same.

A very short story, instead of a drabble...

Napoleon walked into the office he shared with his partner. Illya was writing up a report, oddly by hand as he usually typed them.

“Machine not working tovarisch?”

“I need to replace the ribbon but in the meantime I am handwriting and will ask one of the secretaries to type it up for me.”

“Were you planning to celebrate sometime tonight?”

“Celebrate?”

“You know...la la laaaa la la la... it's September 19th," Napoleon lilted the melody to ‘happy birthday.’

“Oh that. I forgot the date, though it really does not matter.”

“Well I didn’t,” Solo grinned. He produced a small wrapped bundle from behind his back.  “Many happy returns birthday boy.”

Kuryakin accepted the oddly wrapped gift; it looked like a towel, but something was inside it.

He folded it back and out popped the head of a dark tabby kitten. Its fur was medium length with a tuft of white on its chest and the tips of its paws were white as well.

“Not exactly what I had planned as your birthday gift, but it presented itself to me this morning and I thought you’d like it.”

“I do Napoleon,” Illya was busy stroking and scratching the feline’s small head which elicited a loud purr from it.

“So what are you going to name it?”

“I think I will call it Nickie.”

“Good name. Now tonight however, you will be celebrating as I have plans to take you out to dinner at the 21 Club.  April and Mark will be joining us...I think they have a little something for you as well,”Napoleon winked.

“Thank you my friend for the kitten and for tonight as well as for reminding me it was my birthday. Until recently it was something that had little meaning, so you must forgive me when I forget the date...too many unpleasant memories associated with it.”

“Illya, that was in the past, let it go.”

“I will, I promise this,” Illya winked back at him.

“Good, now finish that report; I’m hungry and want to eat dinner."

“Hey, that’s my line!”

“Go ahead, Leona.  Remember what I told you,” Napoleon whispered to the three year old as they stood outside Illya’s bedroom door.

“Yes, Daddy,” she whispered back before knocking on the door.

“Who is it?”

“Leona Nicole!”

“Come.”

The little girl ran to the bed, climbed up and began to kiss the Russian’s head.  “Happy birfday, Papa!  Happy birfday!”

Illya laughed as he hugged her close.  “Thank you, Daughter!  I could not have asked for a better way to wake up than your face and kisses.”

“Daddy is making a special breakfast!”

“This day just keeps getting better and better.”

Entering his shared office for the first time in three weeks, Illya found it empty. Then he remembered that, when he’d spoken to Napoleon the day before, he had said he was heading to Berlin for two days. Sitting down at his desk, Illya sighed contentedly. His chair wasn’t the most comfortable, but following several weeks undercover on a cattle ranch, it felt like sitting on clouds. He had already given his verbal report to Mr Waverly and, as soon as his written report was done, he had a date with a hot bath.

I caught this shot while binging on NCIS Season 3. I think this is very Illya, looks like there might be a black turtleneck beneath that coat.Anyone have a story or Drabble?

I bought this on ebay from a fellow who swore to me that DMc autographed it, and since it wasn't expensive I went for it.  Mainly I just love the picture, it's from a magazine but I have no idea which one. I think the film is Frankenstein.

You probably have this already but it's always worth a second (second?) look
