half-drabbles inspired by lines from a poem...

How old is that

 Seriously are you really going to eat that?”Napoleon cringed as he
 watched the squirming grub pinched between his partners fingers.

“Of course, it is nutritious, more than that K-ration you are contemplating. I think that is from World War I.”

"I like my food not to squirm, thank you."

Can Human nature hide

The rations weren’t enough, and Napoleon picked up a grub, cringing as it dangled over his open mouth.

“Do not think about it, just let it bypass your tongue, and slip down your throat,” Illya whispered encouragingly.

Napoleon tried but couldn’t do it. “I think I’d rather starve,” he moaned.

SILENT NIGHT

Silent Night

Napoleon dragged his injured partner through the gathering darkness, every sense alert for sounds of pursuit -- the crunch of footsteps in the deep snow or worse, the dreaded snarl of snowmobiles closing in.

Nothing. Silence enveloped them.

Snow continued to fall, fat flakes swirling soundlessly down, covering the Vermont countryside in a thick blanket of white. Ice coated the trees; their glittering branches bent like bowstrings under the weight. Against the unforgiving whiteness, the agents' bright blue parkas stood out like beacons.

A snap!

Napoleon spun around, Walther cocked and ready, but it was only the branch of an elm tree cracking under the weight of snow and ice. It fell to the ground with a hollow thud. He sighed, and replaced his weapon in its holster.

A few yards ahead, the forest ended. From here on, it was open country in every direction, an endless succession of rolling hills and farmland. They were miles from a major city, their communicators gone, at the mercy of the elements and their THRUSH trackers.

Not the best way to spend Christmas Eve.

 This Follows A Face In The Crowd at Sardi's...
~~~~~:
The next day after Sardi’s found Napoleon and Illya playing a game of avoidance.  Neither man was happy about the previous evening’s activities.
“So… that was somewhat awkward…’
Illya finally said it, his eyes expressing something like remorse.
“I apologize Napoleon.  It was never my intention to create that change in either of our plans.”
Napoleon stopped the shuffling he’d been doing with the empty file folders.
“Yeah… I guess I over-reacted.  Natalie is young…’
Illya rolled his eyes in agreement.
“… she didn’t mean to throw that punch, I don’t think.”
“Tell that to the waiter.”
They both chuckled.
Hello!
LJ Issues
For those of you able to read this, you're lucky as there are major issues with Live Journal. It took me all day to get onto this site!  In lieu of these LJ  issues, an alternate section7mfu has been set up on Dreamwidth.  A lot of cousins are already there and everything from Section VII has been archived.  Today is the weekly drabble challenge "A Little Drabble do Ya" so sign in and contribute a few words on DW!  Once things are hopefully fixed with LJ, it's my understanding that we can crosspost simultaneously with DW and LJ.
Just as an FYI, in case you haven't been able to access these, here are the warnings and announcements posted by Live Journal.
We apologize for the inconvenience these problems have caused.
LiveJournal is currently up, but you may encounter some problems while attempting to use the service. Specifically, some pages may load slowly, the site may not respond when trying to login, and attempting to post entries or comments may result in intermittent errors. For people using certain Internet Service Providers (ISPs), LiveJournal is completely unavailable. You can read more here.
Specifically, some pages may load slowly, the site may not respond when trying to login, and attempting to post entries or comments may result in intermittent errors. For people using certain Internet Service Providers (ISPs), LiveJournal is completely unavailable.
While LiveJournal has experienced some issues with our servers which we have posted about earlier, these issues have been resolved. The current problems are being caused by a sharp increase in malicious traffic which began on December 31. The first wave of that traffic was targeted at profile pages. As a temporary response to this, we disabled profile pages to maintain availability of the rest of the service.
We have already un-blocked profile pages but at this time, but some people using ISPs which have contributed to the malicious traffic are still being blocked by our mitigation system. We understand that there are legitimate users affected by this; in order to allow these people to access the site, we are taking steps to make the list of blocked addresses more precise so no legitimate users are affected.
In case your ISP is being blocked, there are several ways you can try to access the site:
  • The Opera browser has a Turbo mode which works like a proxy server; LiveJournal may be available through this feature in Opera;
  • If have access to an alternate ISP, try connecting through that ISP;
  • You can try using any proxy servers available to you so your request is routed through networks that are not being blocked. If you do this, we strongly suggest you only use the servers you trust; passing your username and password through an untrusted network (e.g. in order to log in) can result in your account being compromised.
Dressing
Napoleon watched his partner dress.  Although they both had only the clothes they escaped in, he had hung his up while Illya had thrown his on the chair.
Illya 16
Slipping on his wrinkled pant and shirt, Illya sat to pull on his socks and shoes.
Napoleon shook his head getting the Russian’s attention.  “What?”
“Didn’t you ever hear of style and neatness?”
“I was shot at after being pushed into a mud puddle, this is as fashionable as I get.”
To accent his statement, he raked his fingers through his hair.  “I am ready.” He said smirking further exasperating his partner.
I'm playing catch up after being denied access like so many others.  I am posting on Dreamwidth as well, and there is a duplicate Section VII set up there importing what is posted here, for the most part.
This is a series, of sorts... It started with a drabble, became a little short story and has a follow up drabble at the end.
Mischief and mayhem... )
Napoleon unlocked the door to his partner’s apartment, then reset the alarm after he stepped inside.
“There you are.”
Illya was laying on his sofa,  looking quite pale and wrapped in a heavy blanket.
“It’s freezing in here.”
“Radiator broken. Achoo!”
“I have heat, come up to my place.”
“Could not impose.”
“Not an imposition, you’re coming.”
Illya bundled himself in his blanket, walking upstairs looking like a lost waif, then curled up on his partner’s couch.
Minutes later Napoleon brought him chicken soup and not long after that Kuryakin fell asleep.
“Good night sweet Prince.”
Count...
Eureka!!
The Pick-up Part 3
They walked into the elegant hotel foyer.
Napoleon went over to the receptionist.
"Excuse moi, Madam. A gentleman just arrived a few minutes ago?
“Ah, oui. Monsieur Dubois, he is staying here.”
Could you tell us which room?”
“Sorry Monsieur, I cannot do that.”
Solo pulled out a wallet.
“He dropped this and we’d like to return it to him.”
“I can return it for you, Monsieur.”
I’d rather do it personally.
Illya nudged him, indicating a seating area.
“We will wait for him, Madame.” The Russian smiled.
They retreated to a sofa.
“Room 473,” he told Napoleon.
Smart Russian.
