Writer's Choice

It's Saturday, and that means Writer's Choice. Your day to share one of your favorites, either yours or someone else's. Just post and remember to tag it with your name and writers choiceIllya must endure much invasion into his personal space, and that's before he goes on assignment. Both men have their jobs cut out for them, but it's the Russian who has the most to lose, or gain, in this story set in France.

Summary: Napoleon and Illya have an unusual experience while visiting the 'Big Easy,' obviously encountering the Voodoo culture there.
I enjoyed writing this story which takes place in New Orleans because I had family there dating back to the 1800's. (from the Scottish half of the family) Sadly they've all passed and their chldren have moved away...there was family lore about an ancestor being murdered while he was king of the Mardi Gras, and the family supposedly owned property near Lake Pontchartrain that was eventually sold and became the training area for the Bay of Pigs invasion in Cuba.... but Lake Pontchartrain has older connections for me related to Voodoo.
"The Voodoo that you do so well" takes on aspects of the supernatural, which is something I like delving into from time to time. The accompanying picture is of Marie LaVeau, the infamous Voodoo Queen who was a Louisiana Creole practitioner of Voodoo renowned in New Orleans, born 1801. Her daughter, Marie Laveau II, (1827 — c. 1895) also practiced Voodoo. She and her mother had great influence over their following. In 1874 as many as twelve thousand spectators, both black and white, swarmed to the shores of Lake Ponchartrain to catch a glimpse of Marie Laveau II performing her legendary rites on St. John's Eve (June 23–24)

Hope you enjoy the story and your comments are most welcome!
